Bellarmine Track and Field Shatters Records at Ole Miss Classic

OXFORD, Miss. – Bellarmine University track and field made a resounding statement at the Ole Miss Classic this weekend, rewriting several program records and signaling a promising start to their outdoor season. The Knights showcased impressive performances across multiple events, setting the stage for continued success.

Brady Dominates Throwing Events

Caysie Brady led the charge, establishing new program bests in both the women’s discus and hammer throw. Her discus throw of 46.60m surpassed Leah Wolf’s previous record of 45.11m set in 2017, while her hammer throw of 50.87m eclipsed Emily Tuma’s mark from 2019. Brady’s achievements highlight a growing strength in Bellarmine’s throwing program.

Svidal and Sweeney Break New Ground

Amelia Svidal continued her winning ways, breaking her own program record in the triple jump with a leap of 12.15m, improving upon her previous best of 11.95m. On the men’s side, Taevion Sweeney set a new freshman record in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 53.95, besting Zander Hooten’s previous record of 54.62.

Strong Performances Across the Board

The success wasn’t limited to record-breakers. Senior Zander Hooten finished as the runner-up in the 110m hurdles (14.43), while senior Alex Hooten secured third place in the 800m (1:52.07). Sophomore Grant King demonstrated versatility, placing fifth in the 200m (21.62) and 11th in the 100m (10.63). The 4×100 relay team, comprised of Sweeney, Hooten, Olmsted and Hutslar, also achieved a strong result, finishing third (41.55).

Depth and Consistency in Distance and Jumps

Bellarmine’s distance runners and jumpers also contributed to the team’s overall success. Chase Austin, Jack Moutardier, and Jared Fairbanks all placed in the top half of the 1500m, while Marcelo Herald showed promise in the long jump. Aubrey Lane secured second place in the women’s 800m (2:12.93), and Jansen Story finished ninth (2:19.51).
