Kyle Sandilands is facing a civil court battle after builders launched legal action against the radio and television host over unpaid bills totaling $240,000 for renovations at his sprawling Glenorie mansion, nine.com.au reported. The dispute centers on a luxury overhaul of the six-bedroom, five-bathroom estate in Sydney’s north-west, which the broadcaster purchased for $3 million in 2022 as a family passion project.
The Glenorie Mansion Renovation Dispute
Sydney construction firm Alter Build Co filed the civil court case against the 55-year-old media personality on October 1. The builders claim Sandilands failed to pay within the terms of an agreed building contract for bathroom, kitchen, and laundry works. Sandilands defended his position by telling A Current Affair that he rolled the dice on the company, stating they were not fully up to the required level. The broadcaster asserted that he originally set a $1 million budget for the project, which he claims ballooned far beyond expectations.
“We paid like f—— $1.6 million or something and then just the payments or the bills kept coming,” Sandilands told A Current Affair, adding that he is not the state government to keep funding endless invoices. He also stated that when he asked his accounts team to check payment schedules and requested evidence of approvals from the builders, the documentation could not or would not be provided.
Builders and client await court decision on missed payments
Alter Build Co maintains that a valid contract was signed at an agreed cost and that payments were missed according to the established schedule. Representatives for the construction company offered a brief statement regarding the impending litigation. “We’re not in a position to comment, but we’re just going to let the court system play out,” a co-owner told A Current Affair. Sandilands echoed a similar sentiment about leaving the outcome to the judiciary, remarking that he has no personal issue with the builders but prefers to let “some dude in a wig figure it out.” He noted that if he is found to be in the wrong, he will pay, but otherwise will withhold further funds.
The legal clash follows Sandilands’ unsuccessful attempts to offload the Glenorie estate. After deciding the location was too far for a daily commute into the city, he listed the property with a price guide ranging from $5.7 million to $5.9 million. However, the property failed to sell at an auction in May following an $800,000 price cut. The broadcaster currently resides in another freshly renovated property located in Sydney’s east, where he relocated following a high-profile departure from KISS FM.
