TUCSON, Ariz. – The Little Rock women’s golf team is set to compete in the Arizona Thunderbird Collegiate, beginning Monday and concluding Tuesday. The tournament features a highly competitive field, including several nationally ranked programs.
A Challenging Field
Top-ranked Stanford headlines the event. Other teams competing include Arizona State (No. 18), Oklahoma State (No. 20), Baylor (No. 21), Arizona (No. 22), and Texas Tech (No. 47). Colorado is also participating, ranked No. 48. Additional teams in the field are Brigham Young, Cal Poly, Charlotte, Grand Canyon, Little Rock, Marshall, and Seattle.
Little Rock head coach Jenna Birch emphasized the importance of this tournament as preparation for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. The Trojans recently finished ninth at the Advance Partners Collegiate in Florida, an event impacted by unseasonably cold weather.
Sophomore Lara Martin led Little Rock at the Advance Partners Collegiate, finishing 12th overall and earning Ohio Valley Conference Female Golfer of the Week honors. Coach Birch noted Martin “played very well and has worked really hard to compete like that.”
Following the Thunderbird Collegiate, Little Rock will continue its spring season at the Great River Cup in Gulfport, Mississippi.
