‘Back to the Future’ Actor Matt Clark Dies at 89
Matt Clark, known for his roles in ‘Back to the Future Part III’ and ‘Dynasty,’ has died at the age of 89. His family announced that he passed away on Sunday, March 15th, at his home in Austin, Texas, due to complications from a recent back surgery. He was surrounded by loved ones.
A Versatile Career Spanning Decades
Clark appeared in over 120 films throughout his career, demonstrating a remarkable versatility that was appreciated by both critics and audiences. Although many recognize him as the bartender in Back to the Future Part III, his function extended far beyond that iconic scene. He also had roles in television series such as Dynasty and Kung Fu.
“He Died as He Lived, On His Own Terms”
In a statement released to TMZ, Clark’s family shared a poignant reflection on his life and passing: “He died as he lived, on his own terms.” This sentiment highlights the authenticity and independence that characterized his approach to life and work.
Prioritizing People Over Fame
Clark’s family emphasized that he valued working with people who cherished their families and was unconcerned with the pursuit of fame. He accepted roles based on their appeal to him, regardless of their size. His last film appearance was in 2014’s A Million Ways to Die in the West, where he played a gold prospector.
From Business Studies to the Stage
Although acting wasn’t his initial career path – he initially studied Business Administration at George Washington University – Clark ultimately followed his passion for performing. He began his career as an understudy for Martin Sheen in the Broadway play A Story of Three Strangers after time with the Living Theatre.
A Personal Life Filled with Family
Clark was married three times and had five children: Matthias, Jason, Seth, Amiee, and the late Alexandria. His dedication to his craft was matched by his commitment to his family.
