Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux are receiving a free next-generation update. The PC version launches on October 22, followed by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 29. Existing owners on supported platforms get the upgrade at no extra cost.
Free Next-Generation Upgrades for PC and Consoles
Developer 4A Games states that the update preserves the original Redux experience and aesthetics rather than acting as a full remake or remaster. Both titles feature 4K textures, improved animations, higher-quality audio, richer environmental details, bug fixes, and community-requested quality-of-life changes.
On PC, the patch adds DLSS, spatial audio, and platform-specific fixes. Console versions receive native 4K at 60 frames per second, or upscaled 4K at 120 frames per second on compatible displays. Consoles also gain upgraded lighting, shadows, and particle effects. The PS5 Pro receives PSSR support, while the Xbox Series X adds TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing. Xbox platforms also gain spatial audio, Play Anywhere, and handheld device support.
Metro series surpasses fifty million global sales
Eurogamer reported the launch dates on October 3 alongside news that the Metro series has surpassed 50 million copies sold worldwide. The update arrives ahead of Metro 2039, which is scheduled for release on February 4. This gives players a chance to replay the first two Redux games before the next chapter begins.
