A new Minecraft theme park, dubbed Minecraft World, is planned for Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London. The $70 million project, a collaboration between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios, is scheduled to open in 2027.
New Attractions Planned
Minecraft World will include a roller coaster, interactive adventures, and block-built playscapes. The park will also feature themed retail and dining options. A “selection of iconic Minecraft creators” will consult on the construction of the park, which was announced Saturday during the Minecraft Live event.
Angela Jobson, senior vice president of global brand for Merlin Entertainments, stated the park will allow “friends and families to play, explore and craft together on a truly epic scale.” Torfi Frans Ólafsson, senior creative director of entertainment at Minecraft, said the park will allow visitors to “literally be in the Minecraft Overworld.”
Chessington World of Adventures is currently Britain’s biggest wildlife theme park, and is located a 35-minute direct train ride from London Waterloo. It already features rides, a zoo, an aquarium, and two hotels.
Mojang Studios is the developer of Minecraft, described as the best-selling video game of all time. Merlin Entertainments is the company behind Legoland.
