COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball continued its winning streak Wednesday, defeating UAPB 5-1 at Taylor Stadium and completing a mid-week series sweep. The victory, the team’s fifth consecutive, was bolstered by strong pitching from freshman Luke Sullivan and a reliable bullpen.
Strong Pitching and Timely Hitting Propel Mizzou
UAPB scored its lone run in the sixth inning following a wild pitch. However, Mizzou responded immediately with hits from Isaiah Frost and Tyler Macon. The inning culminated in a grand slam by Mateo Serna – his second home run of the season – scoring Frost, Macon, and Cameron Benson and giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead.
Tyler Macon extended his hitting streak to eight consecutive games and his on-base streak to ten games, dating back to last season. He currently ranks among the national leaders with a .556 batting average and 20 RBIs.
Mateo Serna further extended Mizzou’s lead in the eighth inning with an RBI groundout, bringing in Isaiah Frost. This gave Serna five RBIs for the day.
Freshman RHP Luke Sullivan delivered a strong start in his first collegiate appearance, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, and striking out five batters. Relievers Jackson Sobel, Trey Lawrence, Sam Rosand, and Ian Lohse combined for 3.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and recording six strikeouts, with Lohse contributing three strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
Ian Lohse earned his second save of the season, while Jackson Sobel was credited with the win.
