Santa Fe, N.M. – The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) has chosen the Synergy Education Platform, including the Synergy for States solution, as the state’s first unified student information system. The announcement, made February 5, 2026, signals a major modernization effort for New Mexico’s K–12 data infrastructure.
Streamlining Student Data in New Mexico
For over a decade, PED has been considering a single, statewide system to replace the seven or more separate systems currently in use. These fragmented systems hindered data sharing, student transfers, and timely reporting. Recent improvements in data collection, coupled with new funding, have made this transition possible.
According to Mariana Padilla, cabinet secretary of the New Mexico Public Education Department, the new system will “reduce costs, improve data quality, and ensure that districts and educators — as well as parents and students, who rely on the system to stay informed and engaged — have equitable access to modern, reliable tools that support teaching, learning, and student success.”
The decision followed a comprehensive evaluation process involving stakeholder input, product demonstrations, and reviews of functionality, usability, value, and cost. An external advisory group and student information system power users from across the state unanimously recommended Synergy.
Data-Driven Insights for Educators
Gregory Frostad, assistant secretary of the New Mexico Public Education Department, highlighted Synergy’s “ease of use, strong core functionality — including support for special services — and the overall value it delivers to districts.” He also emphasized the importance of the Synergy for States analytics framework, which will provide timely, actionable data for better decision-making.
Synergy for States will offer SEA- and LEA-level analytics, moving beyond traditional dashboards to surface attendance trends, early warnings, and graduation readiness indicators. This will enable educators and leaders to proactively address emerging issues and support students.
PED will make the full Synergy platform available to participating local education agencies, providing access to tools for student information management, teaching and learning, assessment, analytics, and a multi-layered system of supports. This ensures equitable access for districts and charter schools of all sizes.
Rob Wilson, President and Chief Innovation Officer at Edupoint Educational Systems, stated that Synergy is designed to help state education agencies “turn data into action,” moving from compliance-driven reporting to proactive insight.
Implementation will begin this summer with an initial group of local education agencies, including both urban and rural districts, as well as charter schools.
