President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) chief rival and former defense minister, Prabowo Subianto, cut short his trip to Malaysia on Monday, December 23, 2024, amid reports of feeling unwell. Instead, he returned home and held a closed-door meeting to discuss preparations for the upcoming festive season at the Ministry of Defense’s Puri Wirana, Jakarta.

Initially, the visit to Malaysia was purportedly canceled due to Prabowo’s fever. However, Sekretaris Kabinet RI, Mayor Teddy, clarified that the cancellation was due to an urgent matter in Jakarta. "There was an urgent need in Jakarta, so he had to return immediately," Teddy explained.

Upon his return, Prabowo held a closed-door meeting with several ministers to discuss preparations for the upcoming festivities, including Christmas and New Year celebrations. Teddy mentioned that the meeting took place soon after Prabowo’s arrival in Jakarta.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had been anticipating Prabowo’s visit to Langkawi, expecting to welcome him and his family on the island. In a social media post, Anwar expressed readiness to receive the Indonesian president at his official residence in Langkawi.

However, Anwar received a message on Sunday evening, December 22, 2024, indicating that the visit would not proceed due to Prabowo feeling unwell. "Last night, he [Prabowo] requested to postpone the meeting for a few days due to fever," Anwar said.

Extended his well wishes, Anwar hoped that Prabowo would recover soon and that they would reschedule the meeting between the two leaders and their nations. "I wish President Prabowo a speedy recovery and hope that we can reschedule our planned meeting soon," Anwar stated.

Prabowo’s sudden return and the cancellation of his Malaysia visit have raised questions, with speculations ranging from his health to the potential reasons behind the urgent matter in Jakarta. As of now, neither the president’s nor the government’s office has issued an official statement regarding the matter.
