OLED MacBook Pro Rumored to Be Significantly Lighter

Apple plans to release redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring OLED touchscreens and significantly lighter bodies in October or November, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported.

Interior Redesign Delivers a Lighter Chassis

The upcoming OLED MacBook Pro models will be “significantly lighter” than current versions due to a complete internal reengineering, Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter. Apple miniaturized internal parts and rearranged components to make the machines easier to carry. Current MacBook Pro models weigh up to 4.7 or 4.8 pounds depending on the screen size, while the 15-inch MacBook Air weighs 3.3 pounds and the MacBook Neo weighs 2.7 pounds. Cult of Mac reported that the machine will feature a substantially thinner design alongside its reduced weight.

The redesign eliminates the display notch found on recent Apple laptops, replacing it with an on-screen camera cutout and the integration of the Dynamic Island into macOS, according to The Hans India.

MacBook lineup adds Tandem OLED and touchscreen capabilities

The new laptops mark the first time Apple has brought touchscreen capabilities and Tandem OLED technology to the MacBook lineup. The Hans India reported that the OLED display will deliver deeper blacks, improved contrast, and optimized battery life similar to the technology introduced on the iPad Pro in 2024. Newsbytesapp.com noted that the touchscreen interface will operate on a touch-optimized version of macOS currently undergoing software testing.
