Will Campbell’s Playoff Performance Raises New Questions for the Patriots
Will Campbell was expected to be a long-term solution at the most critical position on the offensive line. However, his performance in the postseason – and particularly in Super Bowl LX – has sparked a new debate: are the Patriots back where they started in protecting their quarterback?
The game against Seattle laid bare the weaknesses in pass-blocking. Campbell allowed pressures repeatedly and was directly involved in a sack. According to Next Gen Stats, he was credited with 14 pressures allowed against the Seahawks – the most by any player in a Regular Season or Playoff game of the 2025 season.
Problems in the Super Bowl and Throughout the Postseason
The issues weren’t an isolated incident, but continued throughout the entire postseason. Campbell showed deficits against strong pass-rushers, which were particularly visible in the most important game of the season. He allowed 29 pressures in New England’s four-game postseason, the most in the NGS era (since 2016).
Does Campbell Remain a Tackle – or Will He Become a Guard?
The discussion now centers less on individual mistakes, but on Campbell’s long-term role on the team. Whereas his rookie season isn’t considered a complete failure, recurring problems against fast edge-rushers revealed limitations at the tackle position.
A possible solution could be a position change to guard. Such a move would, however, raise new questions – especially given his high draft position and the original role as a franchise left tackle.
