The Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) officially established its leadership composition and personnel for the 2026–2031 service period on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in Jakarta.
Documented under official decree Surat Keputusan PBNU Nomor: 2/PB.01/A.II.01.01/99/09/2026, the appointments were signed by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar, Katib Aam PBNU Prof Muhammad Nuh, Ketua Umum PBNU KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, and Sekretaris Jenderal PBNU H Gudfan Arif. The decree is effective until September 30, 2031.
Pbnuboard Expands to Include Diverse Representation
Ketua Umum PBNU KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, also known as Gus Kikin, stated that the number of officials has increased to 210 people, up from 189 in the 2021–2026 period. This increase of 21 people is intended to ensure balanced representation across generations and organizational elements, including IPNU, IPPNU, and Ansor.
The new roster includes academic professors and two members from the disability community.
Key Figures Appointed to Leadership Roles
Other key leadership roles include:
- Sekretaris Jenderal: Gudfan Arif (Gus Gudfan)
- Bendahara Umum: Ainun Naim
- Wakil Ketua Umum: Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) and Deputy Minister of the State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro
- Mustasyar: Including Jusuf Kalla, Mahfud MD, and Nyai Shinta Nuriyah A Wahid
The Mustasyar group consists of 33 people, one fewer than the previous period. Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid and KH Yusuf Chudori (Gus Yusuf) joined as members of the A’wan.
Organizational Transition
The current leadership is a result of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Muktamar held at Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas in Jombang, East Java, where a formateur team was established to draft the structure. Before the public announcement, the 2026-2031 leadership met with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Gus Kikin emphasized that the organization will use the Qanun Asasi as its primary reference for all activities. He has called for constructive criticism and appreciation to support the 210 officials in their duties.
Dakwah Transformation
Rais Syuriyah PBNU KH Imam Jazuli (Kiai Imjaz), who also leads Pondok Pesantren Bina Insan Mulia Cirebon, is focusing on transforming dakwah for the digital era. He argues that digital shifts change how people seek religious knowledge and choose sources. Kiai Imjaz believes dakwah should “change without losing its roots,” maintaining its sanad while avoiding technological ignorance.
To support this, a program targeting 5,000 national dai via competency and portfolio selection is set for October 18, 2026, in Banten. Kiai Imjaz stated that digital transformation is an opportunity to “expand khidmah” rather than a threat to tradition.
