Sony announced the latest lineup of free PlayStation Plus Essential games for October, featuring racing simulations, monster hunting, and vibrant squad-based action available to subscribers starting October 6. The monthly drop gives players access to F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 as part of the service’s lowest subscription tier.
PlayStation Plus October Lineup Details
Subscribers can add three distinct titles to their digital libraries beginning October 6, with all games remaining available for download until November 2. EA’s motorsport entry, F1 25, anchors the racing portion of the drop. The title builds on the core racing experience following a paid expansion released in June for the 2026 season that introduced updated teams, drivers, and cars. Players can compete offline through the Konnersport Career and My Team modes or take races online against other drivers.
For fans of multiplayer shooters, Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown 1896 offers a first-person extraction shooter experience set across four maps in the American Frontier. Players battle hostile monsters while hunting rival participants to secure loot, operating either solo or in squads of two or three. Shifting to a vastly different visual style, D3 Publisher’s Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 presents a bright, voxel-based shooter where players defend the planet against giant enemies. The game supports single-player and four-player cooperative modes, letting users build squads from over 100 characters equipped with more than 600 weapons and accessories.
Subscription Tiers and Previous Game Availability
The newly announced October titles replace September’s offerings, which included Chained Echoes, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Wobbly Life, and MLB The Show 26. Those September games remain available for subscribers to claim through October 5.
The games are tied to PlayStation Plus Essential, the entry-level tier of Sony’s gaming service. Following a price adjustment across all tiers implemented in May, PlayStation Plus Essential costs $79.99 annually, $27.99 for a three-month commitment, or $10.99 monthly. The subscription grants users access to online multiplayer features, cloud storage space, monthly game drops, and exclusive discounts on the PlayStation Store.
