Lithuanian Ice Dancers Achieve Historic Sixth Place at Milan Olympics

Milan, Italy – Lithuanian ice dancers Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevičius have delivered a stunning performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, securing a sixth-place finish. This marks the best result for Lithuania in the sport since Margarita Drobiazko and Povilas Vanagas achieved fifth place at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

A Personal Best Performance

The pair’s free program on Wednesday evening earned them a score of 121.71, their highest of the season. Combined with their rhythmic program score from Monday, their total score reached 204.66, a novel personal best. Despite briefly holding the top position after their performance, they ultimately finished sixth as other teams completed their routines.

Their free dance was set to “God is DJ” by the electronic music group Faithless.

Overcoming Obstacles to Reach the Olympic Stage

Ambrulevičius was competing in his first Olympics, while Reed previously represented Georgia in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics at the age of 15. The duo began skating together in 2017 and have been building towards this moment ever since. They earned Lithuania a spot in the 2022 Olympics, but were unable to compete due to citizenship issues. President Gitanas Nausėda granted them Lithuanian citizenship in November 2024, allowing them to represent the country in Milan.

A Moment of Pride for Lithuania

Guostė Damulevičiūtė-Gražulienė, a Lithuanian figure skating expert, expressed immense pride in the pair’s performance, stating that the entire country is celebrating their achievement. The Lithuanian team included three figure skaters at these games, a significant milestone for the nation.

France’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron took gold with a score of 225.82, followed by Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates (224.39). Canada’s Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier secured the bronze medal (217.74).
