The individual who placed the call was able to exit the property safely and meet deputies outside. After securing a perimeter around the home, law enforcement officers entered the residence and discovered three deceased individuals. While the sheriff’s office has not released the names, ages, or genders of the deceased, nor disclosed what led to the shooting, Almaguer stated that the investigation is in its early stages. Deputies are presently awaiting a search warrant that would enable them to investigate further.
“Inside the home, they discovered three deceased bodies. The nature of those victims and their connection to one another are all part of our active investigations,”

Identities of the Deceased
Multiple sources, including the San Francisco Chronicle and Mission Local, have identified two of the deceased as retired San Francisco Police Department officers Ann and Kevin Mannix. The Mannix family owned the home on the tiny street in unincorporated Mill Valley that served as the site of the shooting. Ann Mannix served as a deputy chief before retiring in 2021, and Kevin Mannix was a retired police sergeant who left the department in June 2018 after 27 years of service.

San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew confirmed the deaths to department personnel in a message sent on Sunday evening. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Ann and Kevin Mannix,
Lew wrote, adding, Please keep their family in your prayers.
The department’s behavioral science unit was made available to members who needed support following the news.
Career Backgrounds of the Retired Officers
Ann Mannix was a prominent figure within the San Francisco Police Department, where she became the first woman to join the department’s SWAT team and later led the unit. She is, to date, the only woman to ever serve on the SFPD SWAT team. Beyond her administrative roles, she was involved with the San Francisco Police Activities League and served on a parents’ guild at St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco.
Kevin Mannix served 27 years with the department before his retirement from Taraval Station in 2018. In a farewell message shared by the station that year, he expressed his appreciation for his colleagues, stating, I leave the SFPD, but I am taking your friendships with me forever.
He had noted in his retirement that he looked forward to spending more time with family and friends.
Ongoing Investigation Status
As the investigation continues, authorities have emphasized that there is no known threat to the community.
Detectives from the sheriff’s office investigations unit have been processing the scene. Information regarding the incident has been provided by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
