Educational Opportunities

For those less confident in their birdhouse-building skills, an informative walking tour will be available. Worksheets and pencils will be provided at the zoo’s ticket offices to help visitors identify the birds residing at Rīga Zoo and learn intriguing facts about them.

Did You Know? This year’s activities specifically highlight the flycatcher as the “bird of the year,” with dedicated opportunities to learn about and build homes for this species.

The program also features talks from bird experts. On April 11th, Viesturs Ķerus will speak at the Vides izglītības centrs “Zinarium” (Environmental Education Centre “Zinarium”) about old forests and the flycatcher, offering advice on creating bird-friendly gardens and leading a bird song identification session. On April 12th, ornithologist Ance Priedniece will visit the zoo to test visitors’ knowledge of the flycatcher and introduce other bird species found in Latvia through interactive activities.

Putnu mēnesi (Bird Month) and Putnu dienu activities at Rīga Zoo are supported by partner “LIDL,” who are also the foster parents of the zoo’s black storks.
