Hawai’i Men’s Volleyball Set for Heated Rivalry with BYU

The University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball team (#3 ranked) is gearing up for a two-match series against BYU (#6 ranked) at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on February 25th and 27th. Both teams enter the series boasting impressive nine-match win streaks, promising a highly competitive showdown.

OUTRIGGER Rivalry Series: More Than Just Volleyball

The series, officially named the OUTRIGGER Rivalry Series, is presented by OUTRIGGER Resorts and Hotels, who are offering tremendous prizes throughout the matches. Fans attending the Friday, February 27th match will experience a special celebration of the Lunar New Year, with a Lion Dance performance during intermission and portions of the match announced in Mandarin, courtesy of the UH Center for Chinese Studies.

Fans are encouraged to wear red to symbolize joy, blessings, and good fortune in honor of the Lunar New Year. The Warriors will too be sporting exclusive Floral Jerseys, which will be auctioned off to support student-athletes, with the auction opening on February 26th and closing on March 1st.

Double the Action: Basketball Ticket Bonus

Attendees of the BYU volleyball matches receive a special bonus: a ticket to a Rainbow Wahine Basketball game! Presenting your BYU match ticket at the Box Office grants access to either the UC Davis game on February 26th or the Cal State Fullerton (Senior Night) game on February 28th.

A History of Competition

BYU currently leads the overall series 42-25, but the rivalry is tightly contested in Honolulu, with a 15-15 tie. Hawai’i has won five of the last six matches dating back to 2019. The teams last met on February 1, 2025, with UH securing a 3-1 victory.

This series was added to the schedule following the cancellation of the NIL Tournament, where Hawai’i was originally slated to compete.

Recent Form and Momentum

Hawai’i (12-1) is coming off a dominant sweep of Stanford, winning all six sets by at least eight points. BYU (13-2) has won its last nine matches after a brief two-game losing streak to UC Irvine. Hawai’i has started the season with a 12-1 or better record for the fourth consecutive year.

Looking Ahead: MPSF Competition

The Warriors are scheduled to face additional MPSF teams, including Pepperdine and UCLA, in the coming weeks. Since leaving the MPSF in 2018, UH has a 34-7 record against teams from that conference.
