Rob Lowe Hey, Gimme Some Credit On ‘Tommy Boy’!!!
Over three decades after its release, Rob Lowe is playfully demanding recognition for his uncredited role in the 1995 comedy “Tommy Boy.” The actor, who played Paul in the film alongside Chris Farley, David Spade, Bo Derek, and Brian Dennehy, recently addressed the oversight in an open letter to Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison.
Lowe’s letter, posted on X (formerly Twitter), frames the lack of credit as a “long-standing, key and unresolved issue” and an “atrocity” from a previous Paramount regime. He jokingly urges Ellison to “be on the right side of history and rectify this heinous act, with the addition of: “and Rob Lowe as Paul” above title.”
This isn’t a new revelation. It’s been known for years that Rob Lowe was uncredited in “Tommy Boy,” reportedly at his own request. According to IMDb, Lowe wanted to be a “happy participant” and didn’t require billing.
The recent attention to the uncredited role highlights a broader trend of actors revisiting and commenting on their past work, often with a humorous or self-deprecating tone. This can serve as a way to stay relevant, engage with fans, and generate publicity.
Whether Lowe’s campaign will result in a belated credit remains to be seen. However, it’s certainly sparked conversation and reminded audiences of the enduring appeal of “Tommy Boy.”
