Five people have been killed and 39 others injured following Russian attacks on the Slobodsky district of Kharkiv. In a separate strike, a Russian drone hit energy infrastructure in the Poltava region, leaving approximately 22,000 people without electricity, according to reports from Sky TG24.
The escalation in aerial warfare continues as Ukrainian railway operators reported that 5,831 passenger trains—an average of 205 per day—were evacuated during September due to threats of Russian drone attacks.
Ukraine Attacks Disable Half of Russian Oil Refining
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense claimed its long-range attacks have neutralized 51% of Russia’s oil refining capacity, targeting cities including Moscow, Yaroslavl, Ust-Luga, Perm, Saratov, and Syzran. While these claims have not been independently verified, President Vladimir Putin admitted during a Valdai Club forum meeting that these attacks have caused a loss of approximately 1% of Russia’s GDP.
Beyond the immediate front, the Financial Times reports that Estonia is permanently moving troops closer to the Russian border and acquiring weaponry capable of striking deep into neighboring territory. While Estonian intelligence does not expect a large-scale war with NATO within the next two years, they believe Russia is preparing for a potential future conflict with the Baltic nation.

NATO Aerial Alert
The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that two Spanish F-18 aircraft from the 57th Air Base took off after a radar surveillance system detected an aerial target east of Vylkiv in the Odessa region, near the Romanian border. The aircraft were on combat missions as part of reinforced air policing before the alarm was cleared.
