Shehbaz Sharif meets global financial executives in London

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a series of high-level meetings in London with senior executives from Barclays, J.P. Morgan, Citi, BlackRock, and Rothschild & Co. During the engagements, the visiting financial leaders expressed confidence in Pakistan’s economic reform momentum and reaffirmed their institutional commitment to deepening engagement with the country’s financial sector.

Meetings With Global Financial Executives in London

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with multiple banking and investment executives in London to discuss Pakistan’s economic reform trajectory and improving investment climate. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussions centered on capital markets, trade finance, investment banking, and the expansion of financial services. The meetings were attended by Muhammad Ali, Chairman of the Privatisation Commission and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation, as well as Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.

While meeting with Mohammad Kamal Syed, Head of Private Bank and Wealth Management UK at Barclays, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the bank’s interest in Pakistan, provided an overview of the government’s macroeconomic stabilization measures, and urged Barclays to look into possibilities within the financial sector of the country. With a high-level J.P. Morgan delegation led by Matthieu Wiltz, Co-CEO for EMEA, the Prime Minister explored ways to strengthen partnerships in investment banking, trade finance, and capital markets, suggesting the firm increase its presence while the delegation confirmed its interest in corporate banking and sovereign debt capital markets.

Discussions on Capital Markets and Sovereign Debt Opportunities

The Prime Minister also held talks with a group of senior Citi officials, led by Chief Client Officer David Livingstone, during which he praised the bank’s enduring presence in Pakistan and suggested an expansion of its institutional and corporate banking services. In a separate session, a BlackRock delegation comprising Gordon Fraser and Sam Vecht, Co-Heads of Emerging and Frontier Markets, along with Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst Emily Fletcher, met with the Prime Minister. Shehbaz encouraged the firm to increase its allocations to fixed income and Pakistani equities as part of its frontier markets strategy, with both parties highlighting that sustained policy consistency is vital for fostering investor confidence.

Discussions with Rothschild & Co—represented by Lord Mark Sedwill, Chair of Geostrategic Advisory, and Majid Ishaq, Head of UK Investment Banking—centered on Pakistan’s geo-economic priorities and potential advisory collaboration on capital markets and investment strategy. These interactions represent a major step in the government’s overarching goal to boost the confidence of international investors and draw steady capital flows into the nation.
