This was Van der Lugt’s first international relay race. He handed over the baton in second place to Van Diepen, who won the heat. Belgium won the other semi-final in 3:05.25.
Alongside Lieke Klaver and Eveline Saalberg, Madelief van Leur and Elisabeth Paulina made their debuts in the women’s event.
Klaver built a large lead as the first runner, but Paulina and Saalberg allowed the Polish women to catch up. Second place was enough to qualify for the final, which will take place tonight. The men will also be in action tonight.
