MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — The South Dakota women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Minnesota on Wednesday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Despite the final score, the Coyotes demonstrated resilience, particularly in doubles play and a closely contested singles match at the No. 1 position.
South Dakota gained early momentum in doubles, highlighted by a 6-0 victory from the duo of Selena Bird and Ava Doddridge at the No. 3 position. The No. 2 doubles match went to a tiebreak before Minnesota secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
In singles play, Selena Bird battled at No. 1, forcing a third-set super tiebreak after splitting the first two sets. Bird ultimately fell 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.
Kayleigh Didderiens also fought in her match at No. 2 singles, keeping the opening set competitive before losing 7-5, 6-3. Minnesota secured wins in straight sets at positions three through six to complete the sweep.
Minnesota’s depth proved decisive, as they won all six singles matches to achieve the 7-0 team victory.
The Coyotes will return to action next week on March 27th in Vermillion to face conference opponent North Dakota.
