Petkov Blames Peevski Dependency for Cabinet Negotiation Failure

written by Chief Editor

"Political Tensions Rise as GERB Refuses to Sign Declaration, Signal Clear for Elections"

In a clear indication of upcoming electionsDeyan Peevski has openly declared his intention to run. The Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party has refused to sign a declaration, implying their unwillingness to sever ties with Peevski. This decision has resulted in a clear path towards elections.

Kiril Petkov, co-chairman of "Continue the Change" (PP), stated this in response to GERB’s decision to halt negotiations for forming a regular government. Petkov was speaking at a ceremony commemorating the 177th anniversary of the birth of Hristo Botev, a revolutionary poet, in Sofia’s Borisova Garden.

"I’m sorry to say, showing that this dependence between the two, until it’s broken, makes a better future for Bulgaria difficult," Petkov commented. Petkov also reminded that PP did not participate in GERB’s cabinet talks for the first mandate.

Petkov also addressed the proposed law amendments aimed at halting the process of electing a new chief prosecutor. "The most important for us is to see at first glance what will happen with the Law on Judicial Power (ZSP)," he noted. Petkov stressed that changes to the ZSP are of immense importance, and that an acting chief prosecutor cannot be elected as the titleholder for a seven-year term.

In a recent poll, Bulgarians have shared their wishes for their deputies by 2025. Topping the list is "Work and fewer tall tales" with 36.6%, followed by "New elections" at 29.2%. Other preferences include "Full term" at 15.0%, "Cheap meatballs" at 15.1%, and "Enlightenment and no cable cutting" at 4.1%.

The Dealmaker: Borisov’s Gamble Backfires as GERB Denies Talks

written by Chief Editor

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov’s attempt to mediate between the coalition partners “Continue the Change” and “Democratic Bulgaria” failed. Despite Borisov’s efforts, Democratic Bulgaria refused to engage in talks, stating they hadn’t received an invitation from GERB. Meanwhile, former Justice Minister Nadежда Йорданова confirmed there were no ongoing negotiations between the two parties. The “Continue the Change” (PP)-Democratic Bulgaria (DB) coalition plans to introduce amendments to the Law on Personal Bankruptcy, the Law on Whistleblowers, and the procedures for electing members of the anti-corruption commission. All three changes are necessary to secure the second tranche of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The coalition will also invite other political formations to a roundtable to discuss potential changes to the Electoral Code.

The Plot against Boris Backfires: DobRi Denies Negotiations with GERB

In an unexpected turn of political events in Bulgaria, reports suggesting heated negotiations between the opposition party Gerb and Dobri Zhivkova, a prominent mayoral candidate in the city of Borisov, have been categorically denied by the latter’s party, Dobri (DB). These allegations, first leaked to the media, hinted at a potential alliance or mutual support ahead of the upcoming local elections.

The Allegations

The rumors insinuated that Gerb, led by former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, was considering throwing its weight behind Dobri Zhivkova’s mayoral campaign in Borisov, in exchange for certain political concessions. This cooperation, if true, could have significantly reshaped the political landscape in the city and beyond.

Dobri’s Firm Denial

However, Dobri Denial (DB), the party of Dobri Zhivkova, swiftly moved to dismiss these allegations. In a strongly worded statement, the party asserted that it was not in talks with any other political entities, including Gerb, regarding any kind of collaboration or support. The statement emphasized DB’s commitment to its independent platform and its refusal to engage in political deal-making that could compromise its values and principles.

Gerb’s Response

Gerb, for its part, has not officially commented on the allegations. While it’s possible that the party is maintaining a strategic silence, it’s also plausible that the reports were either misinformed or intentionally misleading to gauge the political pulse.

Implications

The swift denial by Dobri Denial sends a clear message about the party’s political stance and its unwillingness to engage in behind-closed-doors deals that could undermine its image. Furthermore, it reflects a growing trend in Bulgarian politics where parties are increasingly emphasizing transparency and authenticity in their campaign promises.

Looking Ahead

With the local elections drawing closer, all eyes will be on both Gerb and Dobri Denial to see if they stick to their respective lines or if there are any surprise announcements. Regardless, the incident serves as a reminder that political negotiations, especially those involving delicate alliances, are often fraught with intrigue and misinformation.
