Title: Russian Military‘s Aggressive Advance: A System That’s Working, But at What Cost?

In a recent interview with Radio NV, Israeli military expert Igal Levin shed light on the Russian military‘s ongoing offensive, revealing a system that, despite its brutal methods, has been successful for over a year. Levin described the Russian command’s strategy as "absurd" and "inefficient," yet undeniably effective.

The core of this system lies in the Russian military’s ability to attract a large number of people with substantial financial incentives. However, Levin emphasized that this is where the positives end. The Russian command then enforces a harsh disciplinary regime, essentially compelling these individuals to advance, regardless of the personal cost.

"[It’s] madness, primitive, and ineffective in terms of the resources invested and the equipment burned," Levin commented. "But it works." He also noted that while this strategy has shown results, it raises significant questions about sustainability and long-term planning.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin made several statements regarding the war and its potential outcomes. Additionally, an officer from the Ukrainian Azov Regiment discussed the changes in the Russian military over the past three years.

While this strategy may be yielding results for the Russian military, the human cost and sustainability of such a approach remain significant concerns. As the conflict continues, the international community watches and waits for the next developments in this complex and evolving situation.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces Reveal Who Approved Order for Controversial Brigade Commander Award

Headline: Ukraine Commander Awarded Despite Ongoing Abuse Investigation

Subhead: Colonel Oleh Poberezhniuk honored while under probe for misconduct in 211th Pontonno-Mostovaya Brigade.

Article:

Ukrainian commander Colonel Oleh Poberezhniuk has been honored with the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi III degree despite being under investigation for allegedly abusing his position and subjecting his subordinates to mistreatment.

The award, signed by the acting commander of Ukraine’s Support Forces, Major General Yuri Onischuk, took place before Poberezhniuk was officially notified of his suspicion in the case. The commander of the 211th Pontono-Mostovaya Brigade was later indicted for allegedly pressuring his subordinates to build a house in Hmelnytska Oblast while they were officially assigned to duties in southern Ukraine.

The probe into Poberezhniuk’s conduct was triggered by a working group set up by the acting commander of Ukraine’s Support Forces, Major General Dmitry Gherega. The investigation focused on allegations of bullying and financial extortion within the 211th Brigade.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky, awarded Poberezhniuk the prestigious order on November 1, 2024. Despite the ongoing investigation, the Commander-in-Chief’s press service cited Poberezhniuk’s "merits in combat operations" as the reason for the award.

However, the Wagner Group ‘Ukrainian Truth’ investigation into the 211th Brigade’s activities documented instances of widespread bullying, extortion, and cronyism, lending credence to allegations that Poberezhniuk fostered a toxic environment within the unit.

Poberezhniuk was subsequently suspended from his post and strip of his duties by the Commander-in-Chief, and an investigation is ongoing.

Corruption and Extortion in the 211 Brigade: Commander Arrested on $36,000 Bail

Ukrainian Colonel Detained: Pontoon-Bridge Brigade Commander Facing commença Under Investigation

Ukrainian military authorities have taken a significant step in addressing allegations of misconduct within the ranks, as Colonel Oleh Poberezhnuk, commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), was remanded in custody. The arrest comes following a series of reports detailing possible abuses of power and mistreatment of subordinates.

A court in the Western region of Ukraine, acting on a request from the regional specialized prosecution office, approved the measure. Poberezhnuk will remain in detention, with the possibility of posting bail set at approximately $23,000 (908,400 UAH). In addition to the custodial measure, the top brass of the AFU has also relieved Poberezhnuk of his command responsibilities.

The arrest comes on the heels of a investigative report published by the Ukrainian Pravda news outlet. The article uncovered claims of extortion, physical abuse, and nepotism within Poberezhnuk’s brigade. In response to the allegations, the AFU’s top commander, General Alexander Syrskiy, initiated an investigation and temporarily relieved Poberezhnuk of his duties.

However, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine swiftly countered the report, asserting that no such cases had been brought to their attention. Still, spokesman Dmitry Lazutkin acknowledged that any instances of such behavior would be a disgrace and contravene the principles of modern Ukrainian military development, even if not widespread.

The State Bureau of Investigations (GBR) has since opened a criminal probe into potential abuses of power and violence by officers within the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade. Consequently, police in the region have charged Poberezhnuk with misuse of power.

This unfolding situation has highlighted the Ukrainian military’s commitment to rooting out corruption and maintaining discipline within its ranks, a crucial aspect of its ongoing conflict against Russian aggression.
