Two elderly siblings remain missing after a devastating house fire in Kristiansund on Monday evening. The blaze engulfed a single-family home on the island of Frei, leaving only the chimney standing.
Police launched an investigation on Thursday morning to search for the missing siblings, an elderly couple, in the fire-ravaged ruins. The extensive search operation comes after the site was secured by emergency services on Monday.
"Investigators are on the scene to see if we can start looking for clues," says police inspector Yngve Skovly, speaking to NTB.
Crews were called to the scene just before 5:30 PM on Monday afternoon. The fire quickly escalated, spreading to an outbuilding, and consuming the entire property.

The search was temporarily suspended on Wednesday when reduced visibility due to smoke Safety concerns, particularly around the unstable chimney, have delayed the investigation. Experts and specialized equipment are needed to safely excise the remaining structure.
Thursday brings warnings of polar low-pressure systems and heavy snowfall to Frei, adding to the challenges faced by search teams.
The residence was home to three elderly individuals – an elderly couple and the husband’s sister. Tragically, the husband’s wife was the only one able to escape the inferno. Both missing individuals are in their late eighties.
Relatives of the missing siblings have been informed and are being updated on the situation.
