He eventually concluded his stage career at Kladno before joining the Městská divadla pražská (Municipal Theatres of Prague) in 1987, remaining there until retirement.

Although his filmography was relatively modest due to his long tenure in regional theatre, Švihlík gained recognition for roles in films like Antonyho šance (Antony’s Chance) and Bony a klid (Bony and Calm), both directed by Vít Olmer. His portrayal of Karel, a vekslák (black market currency trader) in Bony a klid, became particularly memorable, with audiences often greeting him by the character’s name.
