Alasan Penutupan Stasiun Karet

Menurut Joni, Stasiun Karet yang hanya berjarak 350 meter dari Stasiun BNI City dan memiliki kapasitas tunggu yang tidak cukup membuatnya rentan terhadap kemacetan dan masalah keselamatan.

Locals Protest Closing of Karet Station: The Dawn of Hardship

by Chief Editor January 3, 2025

Headline:
Commuters Object to Plan to Shut Down Karet Station, Calling it Inconvenient and Inefficient

Article:

Striking a chord with many commuters, the Indonesian government’s plan to close Closure of KRL Karet Station: The Reason Behind”>Karet Station has faced strong opposition. Users of the popular Commuter Line (KRL) service argue that the move is unjustified and will make life harder for Jakarta‘s working population.

Luke, a 27-year-old office worker, regularly commutes from Tanjung Barat Station to Karet Station, preferring the short 750-meter walk to his office over alternative stations. "There are countless workers in areas like Karet Tengsin, Mega Kuningan, and Sudirman who do the same," he said.

Luke expresses concern over the proposed alternatives. While Sudirman Baru BNI City Station exists, the distance to his office is over a kilometer, and adequate pedestrian paths are lacking. Switching to the JAK Lingko bus from Tebet Station could exacerbate crowding, he believes, and could still keep him locked in traffic jams from Kasablanka to Karet Tengsin.

Motorcycles present another option, but the risk of getting stuck in heavy traffic and safety concerns make it less appealing, according to Luke.

Similarly, Wibi Pangestu Pratama, another office worker, is skeptical about the closure. He questions the practicality of walking from Sudirman Baru BNI City Station to Karet Station, as suggested by PT KAI‘s Rudi As Aturridha, saying, "Maybe someone should try that walk once before suggesting it to others."

Both Luke and Wibi agree that Stasiun Karet primarily serves passengers in the Karet Tengsin, Mega Kuningan, and parts of Sudirman areas, with Sudirman Station catering to passengers near Sudirman and Thamrin. They argue that Sudirman Baru BNI City Station is a redundancy that overlaps with the existing stations.

They suggest that the government prioritize passenger-oriented policies and consider the clear preference of Commuter Line users for Karet and Sudirman over Sudirman Baru BNI City.

In January, Menteri BUMN Erick Thohir announced plans to close Stasiun Karet as part of efforts to optimize rail services. PT KAI‘s Rudi As Aturridha later explained that Karet Station is too close to Sudirman Baru BNI City Station and its closure is imminent with the new Ggrafik Perjalanan Kereta Api (Gapeka) 2025.

However, commuters disagree, stating that the closure will inconvenience them, and urge the government to reconsider this decision.

Why Karet Station’s Closure Affects Passenger Safety

by Chief Editor January 3, 2025
written by Chief Editor

K_header{

– The planned closure of Stasiun Karet, a major commutertrain station in Jakarta, has sparked debate among commuters and railway officials, with safety and traffic congestion being the main concerns.**

VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Joni Martinus, revealed that the closure of Stasiun Karet is being considered due to safety concerns and traffic congestion caused by the station’s access point, which is close to a major junction.

"Safety is the primary concern for the proposed closure of Stasiun Karet," Joni told Antara, "With a train formation of 12 coaches, our trains cannot proceed quickly through the crossing, leading to potential safety issues."

Joni explained that during peak hours, approximately 2,000 commuters enter Stasiun Karet in just one hour, with an average waiting time of 10 minutes. However, the station’s waiting hall can only accommodate around 150 people, which could pose safety risks.

"Furthermore, the access to Stasiun Karet is prone to causing traffic congestion due to its location near a major intersection," Joni added.

If Stasiun Karet were to merge with Stasiun BNI City, Joni believes commuters would benefit from optimal facilities and secure services. Moreover, Stasiun BNI City is already integrated with various other transportation modes.

To minimize travel time, KAI Commuter and PT KAI (Persero) are in discussions with the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation to integrate the operations of Stasiun Karet and Stasiun BNI City. Preliminary research and observations suggest that Stasiun Karet is only 350 meters away from Stasiun BNI City.

However, not all commuters are on board with the proposed closure of Stasiun Karet. Some, like Jakarta resident Hamidah, oppose the plan as it would require them to walk farther to their destinations.

"I’m not really happy with the plan to close Stasiun Karet," Hamidah said, "If it’s closed, I’ll have to walk much farther to my office, which is near Thamrin."

Despite opposition from some commuters, railway officials insist that the potential merger of Stasiun Karet and Stasiun BNI City will ultimately benefit all passengers by offering improved services and enhanced safety measures.

Erick Thinks Closure of KRL Karet Station: The Reason Behind

by Chief Editor January 1, 2025

Headline: Indonesian Minister Hints at Closing Karet Station Amid KAI’s Efforts to Boost Kereta Bandara’s Performance

In a recent inspection of the Kereta Bandara (train to the airport) service, Indonesian Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Erick Thohir, inadvertently touched on plans to shut down Stasiun Karet, a train station serving Commuter Line (KRL) passengers. The minister made this revelation following his assessment of the Kereta Bandara service from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Stasiun BNI City.

Initially, Minister Thohir discussed the suboptimal performance of the Kereta Bandara service, which currently serves around 1.5 million passengers annually, falling short of its potential 10 million passenger target. To address this, he suggested improvements within the overall train system infrastructure, using the proposed closure of Stasiun Karet as an example due to its proximity to other KRL stations.

"For instance, we might close down Karet Station, just like we’re discussing how to optimize our system," Minister Thohir stated at Stasiun BNI City in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, January 1, 2024.

Rudi As Aturridha, Director of Business Development and Governance at PT KAI, confirmed the minister’s hints, stating that Stasiun Karet’s closeness to Stasiun BNI City makes it redundant. "People going to Karet can just walk, as we’ve already provided direct services to BNI City, making traffic more efficient," Rudi explained.

While the exact timeline for the closure remains unclear, Rudi mentioned that it hinges on the release of the 2025 Graphical Path Plan (Gapeka) for trains. Alongside this, plans are also underway to extend the Kereta Bandara’s route to Stasiun Sudirman, aiming to attract more users by reducing travel times and improving connectivity with Light Rail Transit (LRT) services.

To boost Kereta Bandara’s appeal, PT KAI is implementing dynamic pricing and progressive tariffs, targeting to increase its ridership to 20% of Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s 56 million annual passengers, around 11.2 million passengers. The extension to Stasiun Sudirman will allow passengers from LRT services to access the Kereta Bandara directly, reducing their walking distance. Furthermore, the journey time between Stasiun BNI City and Stasiun Bandara Soetta is expected to be cut from the current 50 minutes to under 40 minutes.

High-Speed Train Plans: En route to Surabaya

by Chief Editor December 26, 2024
written by Chief Editor

In a recent development, Jakarta is abuzz with discussions surrounding the future of the Jakarta-Surabaya High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, with the fresh leadership of the Ministry of Coordinating Affairs for Infrastructure and Regional Development. Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) shed some light on the project’s prospects under the new administration of President Prabowo Subianto.

A Cautious Approach

AHY emphasized the need for careful planning and thorough consideration before proceeding with the massive undertaking. "We’re still doing our calculations, still studying," he said. "Given the scale of the project, we need to be precise and thorough in our calculations," AHY added, speaking from Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in Jakarta.

Engaging Stakeholders

In line with this cautious approach, AHY also revealed plans to involve numerous stakeholders in the project’s planning phase. This inclusive strategy aims to ensure a well-thought-out and robust blueprint for the Jakarta-Surabaya HSR project.

Status of the Project

Meanwhile, Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, Director of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), the company responsible for the project, stated that currently, the Indonesian high-speed rail project remains in the pre-study phase. "We’re still in the pre-study phase. Everything is currently being discussed among all stakeholders," said Dwiyana when contacted separately.

A Brief History

Initially mooted during the administration of President Joko Widodo, the Jakarta-Surabaya HSR project has seen its fair share of ups and downs. Earlier this year, KCIC hinted at plans for gradually extending Jakarta’s high-speed rail network to include Surabaya, potentially starting with a connection to Yogyakarta first. However, under the new administration of President Prabowo, the project’s future remains uncertain.

Wakil Menteri Perhubungan (Wamenhub), Suntana, had previously hinted that the feasibility study for the project was ongoing. He emphasized the importance of thorough evaluation, stating, "The principle is, if it makes transportation more accessible, cheaper, and comfortable, why not? But of course, we can’t just proceed without proper evaluation."

Looking ahead, the future of the Jakarta-Surabaya High-Speed Rail project hangs in the balance, awaiting the outcome of ongoing feasibility studies. presidency’s stance on massive projects, and commitments to public welfare, will all play a crucial role in shaping the project’s future.
