Harness Racing: 19-Year-Old Louis Goetz Makes His Mark

At just 19 years old, Louis Goetz has emerged as a rising talent in French harness racing, securing 32 victories since the start of 2025 and approaching a career milestone of 100 wins. His rapid ascent, particularly within the Sud-Ouest region, is supported by a strategic partnership with agent Vincent Samouélian and a family-run training structure that spans from Marmande to Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Strategic Growth and Professional Development

Louis Goetz’s career trajectory is defined by a consistent increase in annual performance. After recording 19 wins in 2024, he has set a target of 50 victories for 2025. According to Goetz, the appointment of agent Vincent Samouélian at the start of the year served as a catalyst for this growth. “When you turn professional, if you don’t have an agent, it’s not always easy,” Goetz stated. “If I wanted to win as many races as possible, I was a bit obliged.”

Strategic Growth and Professional Development

This professionalization has allowed him to refine his race-day tactics. While he admits that mastering race starts was a challenge when he began in February 2023, he now finds that positioning and strategy come more naturally. Currently, he ranks among the top drivers in the Sud-Ouest, trailing only Maxime Grasset (37 wins) and Manu Criado (34 wins).

Did you know?
Louis Goetz initially pursued basketball before committing to the harness racing industry. He eventually chose the family profession over his early athletic interests, training at the AFASEC school in Graignes before joining his father Benjamin Goetz’s stable.

The Multi-Site Training Model

Goetz now operates within a collaborative structure alongside his brothers, Charles and Robin Bouvier. Together, they manage approximately 50 horses across two primary locations: Marmande and a newly established site in Cagnes-sur-Mer. This geographical distribution is a deliberate operational choice.

According to Goetz, the ability to shift horses between sites based on track configuration—right-handed tracks in the Southwest versus left-handed tracks in Cagnes-sur-Mer—maximizes the potential of each horse. The Cagnes-sur-Mer antenna, opened just two and a half months ago, is managed by Robin Bouvier and has already contributed to an increase in the stable’s total win count.

Future Outlook and Competition

Despite his rapid success, Goetz maintains a focus on incremental improvement rather than long-term career titles. His immediate focus remains on the daily demands of the racing circuit, including his upcoming appearance on July 16, 2025, at the Montignac-Charente hippodrome. He will pilot L’Argentin, a horse trained by his father, Benjamin Goetz.

Future Outlook and Competition

“We are going to discover him in competition, but he works correctly in the morning,” Goetz said of the mount. “I would be disappointed if he finished outside the top three.”
