Huawei announces its billing amid US sanctions

Huawei is considered the world leader in the network 5G, a new standard for mobile technologies that should revolutionize the internet and whose deployment should be accelerated.

But the group is in the crosshairs of the US president’s administration Donald Trump, who accuses him of spying for Beijing. The company’s founder Ren Zhengfei’s military past, as well as his membership in the Chinese Communist Party, fueled suspicions about the regime’s influence over Huawei.

In recent months, Washington multiplied the pressure on its allies to ban Huawei’s 5G equipment, arguing risks in terms of cybersecurity.

In this context, Huawei reported a 9.9% year-on-year increase in its revenue during the first three quarters, to 671.3 billion yuan (about US $ 100.5 billion). This is a much lower growth compared to the same period in 2019 (+ 24.4%).

The profit, the amount of which was not specified, shows an increase of 8%, although it is also falling compared to the same period last year (8.7%). Huawei, which is not publicly traded, did not provide figures on sales.

“Huawei’s global supply chain has come under intense pressure. Its production and activities have faced increasing difficulties.”commented the Shenzhen firm (southern China), without making explicit reference to US pressure.

The Chinese giant has accumulated setbacks in recent months. On Tuesday, Sweden banned him from its future 5G network, after the UK did the same this summer.

The homeland of Ericsson, Huawei’s main competitor in 5G with Finnish Nokia, made this decision after a review of its telecommunications regulatory authority, associated with the army and the intelligence service.

In France, Huawei will not be totally banned, but operators that already use the brand will have time-limited operating authorizations, which should force them to switch providers.

This situation could make “lose a part of the advantage” that Huawei enjoys in the field of networks, warns analyst Philip Marshall, of the Tolaga Research consultancy, specialized in information technologies.

Huawei, on the other hand, will continue to be a global player due to the significant number of patents it holds in 5G, he estimates.

The group is also on a US blacklist to prevent it from acquiring essential “made in the USA” technologies for its phones.

An “unfair” American pressure, for Richard Yu, one of those responsible for the group. “Huawei is currently in a very difficult period,” he acknowledged.

The firm has been forced to accelerate the development of its own technologies. It’s a statement, Huawei assures that it will “do everything possible to find solutions, survive and move on.”

Despite everything, the group became the world’s leading smartphone seller in the second quarter, according to the Canalys research office. And in China, it held an unrivaled position with 72% of the market.

The pediatrician who treated half City Bell is denied a vital medicine

The town pediatrician needs medication, but because of those things the state bureaucracy does not have. It does not matter if he dedicated 50 years to take care of neighbors without resources for free or if he traveled house to house in his light blue Peugeot 404 back in the 80s to visit his patients, or early risers to attend to parents at any time for a telephone consultation (or personal, child in arms), or the tireless round trip from Cantilo and Centenario, where his house was, to the municipal hall of Arturo Seguí, there where the children of that humble and sparsely populated neighborhood were cared for.

The doctor Álvaro Cortés dedicated his life to that, to reassure anxious and frightened parents and to heal children, with few medicines, a lot of wisdom and a smile in his simple office. Today, already retired and as a treacherous mockery of fate, IOMA denies him the medication he needs to carry out the strange neurological disease he suffers, called “dementia with Lewy bodies”, that which the great actor-Oscar winner- also suffered. Robin Williams.

The disease causes cognitive problems and the only medicine that prevents them is donepezil hydrochloride, the one that IOMA refuses to deliver in the dose that the patient needs, who takes a particular brand that is the only one that has given results so far positive in his treatment, according to the doctor’s wife explained to this newspaper.

A couple of days ago, one of his sons made a crude post on Facebook describing the situation, which generated an innumerable amount of reactions in favor of the doctor who took care of the health of a large part of the inhabitants of City Bell since the year 73 until – when the locality was a town – until a few years ago.

Describing an anecdote from April 8 last in a dialogue he had with his father, he said in that post that “now, a few months later, he needs twice the medication he needed at that time for his illness. He went to his doctor and he prescribed it and described it, with the clarity that good doctors have, in the medical history. And we went to IOMA. But it seemed to the person who attended us that my father did not need the dose recommended by the neurologist ”.

A dose that helps him cope with his illness in a better way and that he needs without delay, but which the state bureaucracy, or the ill will of the employee on duty, prevents him from accessing. The calls did not take long to reach the newsroom and to the chroniclers of this medium, who were not surprised by the message: few people can gather as much affection as that obtained by the doctor Álvaro Cortés, who has been the one who accompanied three generations with his bonhomie that transcended the treatment between the professional and the patient

And the concern of one family was transformed into that of hundreds of Citibenans who have known him their whole lives, those who barely passed his office a couple of times or those who saw him hundreds of times having a coffee in Cantilo with his inseparable wife Victory. No one is indifferent to the situation and the impotence that it generates in an entire community grateful to the town doctor and outraged by the solution that does not come, however simple it may seem.

A humble product named as a powerful natural remedy for high blood pressure

A modest, inexpensive product is a powerful natural remedy for high blood pressure, experts said. In controlling blood pressure, they note the “extraordinary benefits” of pumpkin seeds.

High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, which is why it is very important to prevent the condition of hypertension. What can you do if you find that you have high blood pressure? – Doctors ask a question. Their answer: the first step is to adjust the diet, since it has a significant impact on the state and functioning of the circulatory system.

Experts recall that one proven way to stabilize high blood pressure is to cut back on salt and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.

“But research also shows that certain foods have stronger blood pressure lowering properties than others. Pay attention to pumpkin seeds – this modest product can turn out to be a powerful natural remedy for high blood pressure, ”the Express edition quotes doctors.

According to them, the development of hypertension is often associated with an increase in the amount of cholesterol in the arteries – excess cholesterol can block them, increasing the likelihood of heart disease or stroke. Pumpkin seeds contain oil that raises the level of “good” cholesterol, which is a natural vascular cleaner from “bad”.

In addition, pumpkin seeds contain magnesium, potassium and arginine – substances necessary for the production of nitric oxide, under the influence of which vascular tissues relax, their rigidity decreases (this improves the quality of blood flow that feeds the heart).

“Each pumpkin seed is a concentrated source of nutrients that improve blood pressure control mechanisms. Tests in women have shown that by consuming three grams of pumpkin seed oil every day for six weeks, significant reductions in systolic blood pressure can be achieved, ”said the UK’s National Health Service.

In addition to including pumpkin seeds in the diet, reducing salt intake and additional fruits and vegetables, the service also recommends eating foods rich in fiber – they also contribute to reducing high blood pressure.

The government will spend almost 43 million rubles on the fight against crows on the roof. :: Society :: RBC

“If they’re going to hire falconers, that’s a great option. If this money is spent on some reasonable method of scaring away crows, and not their extermination, then this is a sensible decision, ”the expert said.

According to Schneider, killing the birds could have the opposite effect, as new birds from the wild will come to replace the killed crows.

Elena Chernova, an employee of the coordination center of the Bird Conservation Union, told RBC that there is no such number of crows in Moscow that needs to be exterminated.

“The number of crows in Moscow has been falling for several years. Their number was reduced by five times without any extermination. They cannot harm the roof in any way if the roof is not made of plasticine, ”explained Chernov.

According to her, it makes sense to use hawks and falcons against pigeons, whose droppings can damage the roof.

Thorns will be removed from the monument to Lenin in Magadan to scare away birds

After the publication of this article, a representative of the Ministry of Natural Resources told RBC that mass crowds of crows pose a threat, since these birds are carriers of diseases, worsen the sanitary condition, harm green spaces and buildings, monuments of architecture.

“Of those used in domestic and foreign practice, an effective means of protection against unwanted accumulations of birds is the use of specially trained hawks and falcons as biorepellants. To achieve the best results, a group of working birds should ideally consist of four or five hawks and two or three falcons, with which four or six operators (falconers) should work in shifts, ”the interlocutor of RBC explained.

“The financing of these works includes the maintenance of the required number of birds of prey, veterinary services, scientific and methodological support of work and genetic control over the livestock of birds of prey, the purchase of equipment and transport support. These works will be carried out by the FGBI VNII Ecology, – he added.

In the summer of 2019 at the lobbies of Moscow metro stations appeared stickers with the image of silhouettes of predators to scare away small birds, which often shattered on the transparent glass of the lobby.

Most often, birds pose a danger to aviation infrastructure facilities. In September 2019, Zhukovsky Airport near Moscow ordered bioacoustic devices and mirror balls for scaring away birds. In 2015, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov dispersed birds at the airport in Grozny using an unmanned aerial vehicle.

In 2017, Lieutenant General of the Federal Security Service Sergei Khlebnikov statedthat the Kremlin uses noise systems and other technical means to scare away crows.

We are killing the planet: today August 22, we end all the resources that the Earth can regenerate

A date that year after year impacts. On Saturday August 22, humanity already consumed all the natural resources that the Earth can regenerate naturally in a year, announced WWF, which also demands radical changes to face the wear and tear of the planet.

Luis Suárez, coordinator of the NGO, called on all governments to promote the “Agreement for Nature and People” campaign, which seeks to stop the disappearance of species, reduce the ecological footprint and prevent the destruction of habitat, through new policies that curb the greenhouse effect and climate change.

Suárez recalled that in 2019, the day the Earth consumed all the natural resources that it can regenerate in a year occurred on July 31. This year, however, it was postponed until August 22 due to the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic.

And the explanation for this “delay” is very simple: the stoppage of economic production. “The trend is very clear: Every year we consume more than the natural capacity of the planet to generate and recover. At the moment we consume the equivalent in resources of 1.6 planets and we only have one planet,” said Suárez.

very cheap and long-known drugs help save the lungs with coronavirus

Cloving hospital on the basis of the Medical Scientific and Educational Center (ISSC) Moscow State University named after M.V.Lomonosov took the first patients on April 21 and completed his work on June 13. It turned out that it was possible to achieve the best treatment results for COVID-19 in Moscow. Over the entire period, 4 patients died, and among severe patients who got mechanical ventilation, the mortality rate was less than 14% (for comparison, the average for the city and the world was up to 70 – 80%). Eighteen doctors out of 220 employees of the hospital were infected with coronavirus, there were no deaths among the medical staff.

What approaches were used at the University Hospital of Moscow State University to achieve such results? We continue the conversation with the head. Department of Therapy, Faculty of Fundamental Medicine, Moscow State University, Head of the Department of Age-Associated Diseases, Medical Scientific and Educational Center, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Cardiologist Yana Orlova.

MEDICINE FOR COUGH FOR 80 RUBLES

– Most of those who are ill or are afraid to get sick are worried about fibrotic changes in their lungs. They say that you have developed special therapy that can reduce the risk of developing fibrosis. Is it possible?!

– Yes, we launched an appropriate clinical study. There are no final results yet, but we have developed clinical practice.

“What did you do to save the lungs?”

– We used a combination of bromhexine and spironolactone (both are long-known very cheap drugs. – Ed.). Bromhexine is an expectorant that has been prescribed to patients with pneumonia and cough for many years. At the same time, experimental data showed that this drug can block a specific enzyme and impede the penetration of coronavirus into cells. True, it was on this effect that we counted to a lesser extent in inpatients, since such an effect is important mainly in the early stages of the disease. But the expectorant effect of bromhexine really helps patients with COVID. I heard that our colleagues in Peter launched a study of bromhexine for prophylactic purposes. We will wait for the results.

FIBROSIS OBSTACLE

– The second drug – spironolactone – is traditionally widely used in cardiology for the treatment of heart failure, severe hypertension. It has a small diuretic, magnesium and potassium-preserving effect, continues Yana. Orlova. – It has several mechanisms through which it can be useful in coronavirus infection.

Firstly, a mechanism that prevents the development of fibrosis in general in the body. There are works that, in particular, show that spironolactone reduces fibrosis in the heart. At the same time, it is known that the tendency to fibrosis is not local, but systemic – where there is more inflammation, there will certainly be fibrosis. And we see, of course, fibrotic changes in the “covide” in our patients. Therefore, we prescribed spironolactone as a drug for the prevention of this process.

Secondly, this drug blocks sex hormone receptors, in particular testosterone. Some published studies suggest that “high-testosterone” men suffer from “covid” more often and develop more severe fibrotic changes. Therefore, blocking these receptors for several weeks during COVID treatment may be useful in reducing the severity of complications. We are not talking about a longer intake, since male patients are unlikely to agree with a decrease in testosterone levels in the long term.

And perhaps the most important point. In almost all of our patients, we observed hypokalemia (a decrease in potassium levels. – Ed.). With coronavirus infection, potassium is intensely excreted from the body, and scientific articles even suggest that hypokalemia serves as the trigger for a cytokine storm. So spironolactone has a real chance to reduce the risk of this dangerous complication. But the main thing, in my opinion, is that lowering the level of potassium in the body is extremely harmful to the heart and triggers life-threatening rhythm disturbances, increasing the risk of sudden death. We, like all others, replenished potassium with droppers, but it was more effective to retain it in the body with the help of spironolactone.

WHEN PRESCRIBED PATIENTS

– Yana Arturovna, how many patients did you have on average?

– About 10 – 14 days. But someone and 50 days.

– Have you noticed signs by which it can be assumed that the disease in the person brought is likely to go the hard way?

– Such studies were carried out in the world, our clinical practice confirmed them. Men certainly get worse than women; the elderly are heavier than the young; overweight people are heavier than overweight patients. Men with a classic male type of baldness, a lot of facial hair, we can say brutal men get sick harder.

– Under what conditions did you discharge patients?

– We acted as close as possible to the recommendations Ministry of Health: so that the temperature for three days was not higher than 37.5 degrees; so that C-reactive protein (an indicator of inflammation) is lower than 10 mg / l, and saturation, that is, the level of oxygen in the blood, is higher than 96%.

“HEAD OF EPIDEMIOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF ITSELF WORKED AT SANPROPUSNIK”

– How often do you get sick doctors and nurses?

– In the first month no one got sick at all. We have a very powerful epidemiological service. The head of the sanitary-epidemiological department, a senior researcher, correctly organized the whole process, and for the first two weeks she personally worked in the sanitary inspection room at the exit from the “red zone” and helped doctors and nurses who were exhausted after the shift safely remove protective clothing.

Then both people’s fatigue and viral load accumulated. By the middle of the second month, sick people began to appear. There were no seriously ill patients. We treated part of the staff in our observation, part of it was treated at home. In total, 18 people were infected from the medical staff (less than 10%).

– Doctors take something for prevention? Vitamins C, D, Zinc?

– I saw the recommendations of American nutritionists, they speak out positively about taking zinc, melatonin and vitamin C. There were somewhat conflicting data on vitamin D. But we did not give any such recommendations to our employees. We have all the prevention was associated with minimizing contacts and other measures of epidemiological safety.

Physicians are the heroes of our time.“If you think that you are special and that a pandemic will not affect you, you are deeply mistaken,” listen to what the doctors who are fighting with coronavirus say

Ministry of Labor explained payments to citizens from July 1 as a “technical algorithm” :: Society :: RBC

Earlier Sunday, Znak.com published a video featuring a person who looked like the head of the Russian Pension Fund (PFR) Maxim Topilin. In the video, he gives instructions to prepare all appointments and payments by June 30, because “[известно], what <...> the first day will happen. “

According to him, the treasury and banks Sberbank and VTB will be involved in this process, and payments will begin at 5:00 local time on July 1.

RBC sent inquiries to the Pension Fund and the Central Election Commission.

In Sberbank, RBC said that they were ready to make payments and will begin transferring upon receipt of payment documents from the FIU. As part of the first payment, the bank made about 18.7 million payments, the number of recipients of the second payment is expected to be comparable, the bank noted.

VTB explained that they are a technical agent for crediting one-time state payments, and advised them to contact the FIU for more information on the timing and volume of payments.

A one-time payment for children from three to 16 years old was established by President Vladimir Putin. He announced this during his address to the Russians on May 11. The size of the payment is 10 thousand rubles. To receive it, it was necessary to apply to the Pension Fund or leave an application through the State Services portal.

During his appeal on June 23, the president suggested repeating the payment and including children under three in it. The upper limit for receiving payment remained the age of 16 years.

Screening, does France have the means to achieve its ambitions?

700,000 virological tests per week, starting May 11. This is the course set by Prime Minister Édouard Philippe to succeed in the deconfinement of France. An amount appeared necessary to diagnose symptomatic people – based on an average of 3000 new cases per day -, as well as the twenty individuals that each patient is likely to have infected, these famous “contact cases”.

→ READ. Are we going to run out of screening tests?

How to reach such a goal, when until now, hospitals and city laboratories did not perform more than 300,000 tests per week, according to data communicated by the general direction of health? ” In reality, based on Social Security figures, we did 130-140,000 weekly tests, valued Philippe Froguel, professor at CHU Lille and Imperial College London. And this figure has even tended to decrease since the end of April “, underlines the director of the European institute of genomics of the diabetes (EGID), which transformed his laboratory to make there tests of Covid-19.

Chinese robots to the rescue

To increase the pace, the Ministry of Health is counting on automation, and more particularly on twenty test robots purchased at the end of March from China. Capable of carrying out more than 2,000 tests per day, these machines were sent to the main teaching hospitals in the territory, as well as to two private laboratories, as revealed by an investigation by the Radio France investigation cell.

Problem: the delivery times have been stretched, and the start-up of the machines has proven to be complex. According to Philippe Froguel, some of these robots are not yet operational. As for “Those who have successfully operated them are disappointed because the machines are ultimately unable to do more than 1,500 tests per day. “

Swab shortages and reagents

Other obstacles stand in the way of the government’s ambitions, starting with the lack of equipment. While some laboratories are alerting to the shortage of swabs, these long cotton swabs that are inserted into the nose of patients before being analyzed, others tire of the dropper deliveries of reagents, essential for the detection of virus. “Our supplier has alerted us to a possible shortage as early as next week”, says Professor Froguel. Nobody gives us any indication, we feel abandoned ”.

Xavier Palette, too, says duty “Fight every day to get reagents”. For the head of the medical biology service at the Sud Essonne hospital center, also at the head of the national union of hospital biology, “Theoretically 700,000 tests per week are possible, when we know that usually laboratories receive 500,000 people a day in France”. In practice, however, the low stocks of personnel protections, including overcoats, may dampen momentum.

“There is no risk of being overwhelmed”

“We want to commit to a capacity increase, but we need a minimum of visibility”, abounds with the president of the National Union of Young Medical Biologists Lionel Barrand, for whom one of the priority issues is recruitment. “The teams have been working a lot for two months, they are wrung out, warns the liberal biologist. OI’m not going to need arms. “

Unless, as François Blanchecotte hopes, the real screening needs remained well below capacity. “The government is based on the high range of 3,000 new cases per day, but in Indre-et-Loire (a green area, note), we are very far today, says the president of the Syndicate of biologists. Unless a huge cluster appears, with hundreds of infected people to sample, there is no risk of being overwhelmed. “

And that could well continue, provided that the population remains cautious, insists Lionel Barrand. “Without social distancing or barrier gestures, 700,000 tests, that would not be enough to contain the epidemic. But even 7 million tests would not be enough. “

it affects not only the lungs, but the whole body

The first 10 days after the onset of symptoms of the disease, the 38-year-old American was feeling quite well. He was not at risk; he had no chronic diseases.

– The man was examined, the disease was mild. The patient had a slight cough. Therefore, he was sent home for treatment, ”says the head of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Westchester Medical Center Sean Wengerter.

And then the incredible happened.

One morning, a man woke up with icy and numb legs. The body was constrained by terrible weakness; there was not even the strength to get out of bed.

The examination showed that the patient had aortic occlusion – a large blood clot formed in the main artery at the place where the artery diverged in two directions – to the right and left leg. Because of this clot, blood enriched with oxygen did not enter the iliac arteries.

“This is extremely dangerous.” From this can die from 20% to 50% of patients, – notes Vangerter. – But such things are not typical for 38-year-olds.

An emergency operation to remove a blood clot could save the patient’s life. But doctors working with patients with COVID-19 are everywhere faced with rather strange and frightening phenomena in infected patients. For example, the formation of blood clots (actually blood clots) of various sizes throughout the body, renal failure, inflammation of the heart muscle and malfunctions of the immune system.

“Coronavirus occurs in each patient in its own way,” notes Scott Brackenridge, associate professor of emergency surgery at the College of Medicine at the University of Florida. – In some cases, the patient has a problem with breathing, in others, the internal organs begin to fail. In children, the immune system as a whole begins to rebel.

Coronavirus is not just a respiratory diseasePhoto: Ivan MAKEEV

MYSTERIOUS STROKES

A new type of coronavirus is considered to be a respiratory virus, although it is already becoming obvious – the infection affects the entire human body. The most common symptoms are fever, pneumonia, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

In this case, the virus attacks some organs directly. First of all, the mucous membrane of blood vessels, which entails unnatural coagulation of blood.

– COVID-19 provokes a local inflammatory reaction that leads to the formation of blood clots, – explains Wengerter. – This is due to the direct effect of the virus on the arteries.

A number of doctors recorded strokes in young patients with coronavirus, as well as the formation of blood clots in the lungs. Blood clots were found even in the smallest vessels.

“Since each organ feeds on blood vessels, and the virus attacks them first and foremost, we end up with damage to internal organs,” adds Dr. Scott Brackenridge.

Another serious symptom that is observed in some patients who become ill with the new coronavirus is the “co-fingers.” The infected toes swell, becoming red or purple. It is possible that the reason for this is blockage of blood vessels. But doctors say that usually this does not have serious consequences.

Kawasaki Syndrome

One of the most alarming reactions to COVID-19 is observed in children. It has already been named as a children’s multisystem inflammatory syndrome. In newYork Doctors have identified more than 100 cases.

This syndrome is characterized by a rather long fever, inflammatory process, malfunction of one or more internal organs, as well as the general condition, which is usually observed with shock. Pediatricians also compare these symptoms with the syndrome. Kawasaki.

Kawasaki syndrome is a rare disease that affects children aged 3 to 10 years. It is characterized by damage to the medium and small arteries, thrombosis, the formation of aneurysms and rupture of the vascular wall. Cases of infection are rare. However, recently, doctors have noted an increase in the number of patients with this syndrome.

Both childhood multisystem inflammatory syndrome and Kawasaki syndrome lead to an overly aggressive immune system response to coronavirus. This may be accompanied by inflammation of the blood vessels and heart muscle.

KILLER CELLS

However, scientists note that coronavirus is not able to cause a strong immune response, but, on the contrary, suppress the entire immune system. And this can allow the infection to freely attack the internal organs.

Partly this theory was confirmed by Chinese experts, led by Dr. Zhang Zhang. Scientists analyzed samples of immune cells taken from the lungs of 9 patients infected with coronavirus. The results of the study showed an abnormally high level of leukocytes – macrophages and neutrophils responsible for the destruction of harmful pathogen – in severe patients. At the same time, these patients had a rather low level of CD8 T cells, which are called killer cells. They are responsible for killing virus-infected cells.

But doctors are reassuring, noting that they have drugs that can thin the blood, and also help the work of white blood cells that resist infection.
