A loop road around the rear of the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) campus in Moylish is planned to improve traffic flow and connect two communities.
New Road Proposals Unveiled
Council officials presented an alternative route for a new road linking Woodview and Moyross at a consultation session held in Thomond Community College. The proposed link could reduce pedestrian travel time between the two communities from a current 35-minute circuitous route to a five-minute walk.
The revised proposal mirrors the original plan – a direct route between Old Cratloe Road and Moyross Avenue – but incorporates a one-way loop road behind the TUS campus. This loop would serve as an alternative exit onto Old Cratloe Road, guiding traffic and pedestrians around the sports hub and reconnecting them near the Cratloe Road roundabout, utilizing the western access road to and from TUS.
Community Concerns
While the proposed link has been welcomed in Moyross, residents in Woodview have expressed disappointment with both route options. Fine Gael councillor Olivia O’Sullivan stated that residents feel “unheard” and believe the proposals favor one community over the other. She noted concerns about a lack of inventive proposals and the availability of other land banks.
Mayor John Moran has not yet indicated which option he will support, stating he will outline his preference in the coming days. David Tobin, a board member of the Northside Family Resource Centre in Ballynanty, expressed uncertainty about the purpose of the alternative route via TUS but emphasized the importance of completing the project efficiently.
