Peugeot 5008, the French 7-seater SUV gets a makeover

Peugeot 3008 – claws sharpened

Four years is not an eternity, but in view of the ever faster developing techniques and technologies, it is a long period of time. In the case of the 3008, the anniversary is marked on the exterior with a completely redesigned front, which creates the optical connection to the 508 with a new light signature. The LED headlights have also been re-contoured with a sharply drawn lion’s claw design. In the interior, in addition to upgraded furniture, the currently revised version of the i-Cockpit is installed, with a new instrument cluster – 12.3 inches in size, individually configurable – and the latest HD technology for the infotainment system touchscreen.

In principle, the drive program has remained the same. It consists of a 1.2-liter and a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 131 and 181 hp and a 1.5-liter diesel with 131 hp. The versions with automatic transmission now have a driving mode switch (Eco, Normal, Sport) on the center console. The recently introduced plug-in hybrid offer remains unchanged: one 225 HP system output (and front-wheel drive) and one 300 HP system output (and electrically generated all-wheel drive).

The range of assistance systems has been expanded to include night vision support, and the further developed traffic sign recognition system shows speed limits, stop and one-way signs and no-overtaking signs in the instrument cluster.

This is even truer with the PASM controlled damping including a sport chassis lowered by 10 mm, at the cost of some discomfort on degraded pavement. Behind the wheel of the Turbo S, what fascinates is its unparalleled consistency, and the extent of its repertoire. The Turbo is able to move through traffic without flinching and in the next instant, catapult you into another dimension with a simple push on the accelerator.


If unsurprisingly, the performances border on excellence, the times are those of a missile: it only takes 1.6 seconds to go from 80 to 120 km / h. From the latest 911 type 992, it inherits the best: the comfort equipment of a sedan and the digital instrumentation resting on a curved tablet.
