From Netflix Stage to Local Theater: The Rising Stars of Dublin
Dublin, California, is buzzing with pride after the success of young performers on Netflix’s “Star Search.” Eleven-year-traditional Madison Lauren, a local singer, captivated audiences with her talent, reaching the finals of the competition’s Juniors Music category. Whereas magician TJ Salta ultimately claimed the $500,000 prize, Lauren’s journey has been anything but a disappointment.
A Voice Years in the Making
Madison Lauren, whose full name is Madison Manlapaz, began singing at a remarkably young age – between one and a half and two years old. Her dedication culminated in a win in the live competition, earning her a spot in the overall “Star Search” finale. Judges Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chrissy Teigen recognized her potential, alongside enthusiastic viewer votes.
“Ever since I was 6 years old, I’ve said that I wanted to sing for the world,” Lauren shared in an email interview with the Pleasanton Weekly. “Four and a half years later, I was able to sing on Netflix’s ‘Star Search’.”
Beyond Winning: Growth and Gratitude
Despite not winning the grand prize, Lauren expressed immense gratitude for the experience. She realized that the value of the competition extended beyond the title. “I learned that love isn’t based on winning,” she said. “Everyone was still proud of me and that helped me understand that growing and learning is more important than a title.”
Her principal at Brave Christian Elementary, Tara Brown, echoed this sentiment, praising Lauren’s poise, confidence, and the joy she brought to audiences. “Watching her compete…we were all so proud,” Brown stated.
Local Talent Shines: The Force from Livermore
Lauren wasn’t the only Bay Area talent making waves on “Star Search.” Xtreme Force Dance Company of Livermore, with a team of eight dancers aged 9 to 14, as well competed. Dubbed “The Force,” the team showcased acrobatic-inspired dance routines.
“That was the biggest thing we’ve ever done,” said Ashley Firestone, co-owner of Xtreme Force Dance Company. The dancers, including 13-year-old Victoria Nichols and 14-year-old Calisa Schwarer, found the experience incredibly valuable. “You could see everyone in the audience and you just have to pretend that no one’s filming you and you’re performing it like how you did in practice,” Schwarer explained.
What’s Next for These Rising Stars?
Madison Lauren is already turning her attention to her next performance, taking the stage in “Matilda The Musical JR.” from March 5-7 at the Brave Church auditorium in Dublin. She remains focused on her overarching goal: “to share my voice and my heart with people everywhere.”
The dancers of The Force also reflected on their experience, with 13-year-old Annabella Maugeri stating, “I’ve grown so much from this experience and it is really something that I’ll never forget.”
