Jakarta Set to Launch Nutritious Meal Program for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women

The Jakarta Provincial Government is gearing up to implement a free, nutritious meal program for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. The ‘Makan Bergizi Gratis’ (MBG) program is currently in the planning phase, with the focus on finalizing the food distribution scheme from Satuan Pelayanan Penuhin Gizi (SPPG) to the beneficiaries.

Marulina Dewi, Head of Cooperation with Regional Governments, announced this at Taman Margasatwa Ragunan in South Jakarta on Wednesday (8/1/2025). She revealed that the Jakarta Provincial Government is working with SPPG heads and the National Nutrition Board (Badan Gizi Nasional) to refine the program’s blueprint.

"For pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, we are currently working with SPPG heads and the BGN to create the most effective implementation and distribution plan, from the kitchen to the beneficiaries," Marulina explained.

In addition to the program for maternal health, preparations are also underway to launch MBG for schoolchildren in Jakarta. Marulina confirmed that the program has already reached out to numerous schools and thousands of students on its first day of implementation.

"On the first day of the MBG program, we’ve already covered 41 schools with a total of 12,054 students," she noted.

The Jakarta Provincial Government, led by provincial governors and vice-governors, along with ministers and deputy ministers, has conducted site visits to multiple SPPGs across the city to oversee the smooth operation of the program.

Bali Shock: Chinese Tourist Sexually Assaulted and Robbed by Ojek Driver on New Year’s Day

Badung, Bali – A disturbing incident occurred on the eve of the new year when a Chinese tourist, JT, was sexually assaulted and robbed by an ojek driver in Pecatu, Badung, Bali. The incident took place on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, along Jalan Batu Kandik.

JT, a female tourist, was looking for an ojek at a nearby base station, not far from Pantai Nyang Nyang. She intended to return to her villa on Jalan Labuansait. After struggling to find transportation, she spotted a driver who had just dropped off two passengers. Seizing the opportunity, she approached him. However, instead of taking her to her destination, the drivertook her to a secluded area on Jalan Batu Kandik.

At that location, the driver sexually assaulted JT. After the assault, he demanded money from her, but JT refused, stating she had no cash. The driver then noticed JT wearing a diamond ring and proceeded to rob her, fleeing the scene immediately afterwards.

The diamond ring, worth approximately IDR 81 million ($5.9 million USD), was JT’s prized possession. "The ring was quite expensive," her lawyer, Joseph Nahak, confirmed in an interview with detikBali on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Polisi have since obtained CCTV footage of the incident and are in the process of identifying the assailant. The suspect is described as a man of average build, brown skin tone, about 168 cm tall, wearing a green jacket and helmet.

JT’s lawyer, Joseph Nahak, expressed that the victims’ loss extends beyond the financial; the traumatic event has caused her significant distress. "The diamond ring is a significant loss, but more importantly, our client is now suffering from the trauma of this ordeal," Joseph said.

The Badung Police are actively investigating the case, and further updates are expected to follow as more details emerge.

Indonesia‘s Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) Secures Rp 150 Billion Annually from 10% ‘Free Lottery Prize’ Contribution

Jakarta – The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) receives approximately Rp 150 billion annually from the 10% contribution of ‘Free Lottery Prize’ merchandise. This significant influx of funds bolsters Kemensos’ budget to run its various programs.

Mensos Saifullah Yusuf, commonly known as Gus Ipul, recently revealed this information to reporters at the Kemensos headquarters in Jakarta. "I need to emphasize that every year, Kemensos receives around Rp 140 billion to Rp 150 billion annually from this free lottery prize contribution," he stated.

The ministry secures this substantial amount through a 10% deduction from each Free Lottery Prize’s merchandise value, as mandated by Presidential Decree No. 22/1954. Gus Ipul lauded the efficiency of lottery organizers, highlighting their administrative discipline and compliance with regulations.

Citing a prominent bank as an example, Gus Ipul shared that a single institution contributes tens of billions of rupiah annually to the ministry through its lottery operations. "For instance, BRI alone has contributed more than Rp 30 billion to Kemensos this year," he added.

Kemensos plans to allocate the collected funds to support its programs, such as providing clean water, rebuilding homes, constructing roads, distributing agricultural equipment, and other dire need-based initiatives within communities.

Gus Ipul explained the allocation process, "The funds will be used for public welfare, including providing clean water, rebuilding homes, constructing roads, or distributing agricultural equipment that corresponds to the community’s needs."

He also elaborated on the application and assessment process, "There is a mechanism in place for applications, followed by an assessment. Once approved, the funding will go directly to the beneficiaries."

The ministry prioritizes allocating resources to address societal needs, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the support they deserve.

Wildfires Ravage Australia, Burning an Area larger than Singapore

by Chief Editor December 27, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Canberra, Dec 27 – Fierce bushfires sweeping through Australia‘s Victoria state have consumed an area the size of Singapore, with firefighters battling to contain the blaze that has forced mass evacuations from numerous rural communities.

AFP reports that extreme fire conditions have gripped eastern Victoria over the past week, with multiple blazes raging across the region.

Luke Hegarty, spokesperson for the state’s Incident Control Centre, confirmed that the largest fire has scorched over 74,000 hectares of the Grampians National Park, located approximately 240 kilometers west of Melbourne.

"Essentially, we’re talking about a fire the size of Singapore," Hegarty told national broadcaster ABC.

The situation has improved, but firefighters still face a considerable challenge in controlling the Grampians blaze, which spans over 360 kilometers in perimeter. As of now, there have been no reports of deaths or damaged homes.

"It’s a task that involves a lot of walking, driving, or flying around the perimeter of the fire to ensure we’ve contained it," Hegarty stated.
