The early morning hours of Sunday, January 5, 2025, turned tragic for the family and colleagues of Wakapolres Pelabuhan Belawan, Kompol Iwan Kurnianto, who lost his life in a accident on the Belmera Toll Road. While returning from a security check, his vehicle collided with a dump truck, leading to his untimely death and severe injuries to his wife and aide.

Pelabuhan Belawan Police Chief, AKBP Janton Silaban, provided details of the incident, which occurred around 00:33 WIB at KM 8.250 on the toll road, passing through Kelurahan Martubung in Medan Labuhan. "They were on their way home after completing night patrol and checking security posts at Marelan," he revealed, speaking to detikSumut.

Kompol Iwan, his wife, and his aide were traveling in a Toyota Innova (B-120-ATH) from Medan towards Belawan when the accident happened. The car collided with the rear of a stationary dump truck (BK-8177-XE) ahead of them, resulting in the car becoming trapped under the truck and being dragged along the roadway for some distance.

The impact of the collision proved fatal for Kompol Iwan, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His wife and aide, however, survived but sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, with local authorities urging all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such tragedies.
