Canvas Unveils 1,500W ‘Audiophile’ Soundbar

Danish audio manufacturer Canvas has announced the Canvas L, a soundbar the company claims is the world’s first “audiophile” soundbar, featuring 1500W of power and custom-tuned Scan-Speak transducers. Scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2026 with a starting price of €5,999, the device is designed to visually integrate with televisions ranging from 65 to 85 inches.

How the Canvas L Approaches Audiophile Performance

The Canvas L prioritizes technical precision over standard soundbar design by utilizing 1500W of total power distribution. According to Canvas, the system splits this output into 300W for each main woofer, 200W for mid-range drivers, and 50W for tweeters. The company reports a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 0.02% at full rated power, a figure intended to minimize distortion during high-volume playback.

How the Canvas L Approaches Audiophile Performance

Internal hardware includes a GaN (Gallium Nitride) power supply and new Class D amplifier modules. These modules employ post-filter digital single-loop feedback, a mechanism designed to suppress frequency-dependent load behavior in the output filter, resulting in what the brand describes as more transparent sound reproduction.

Pro Tip: When evaluating high-wattage soundbars, look for THD ratings at rated power rather than peak power. Lower THD percentages generally indicate cleaner signal reproduction at higher volumes.

Engineering for Acoustic Inertia

To manage the physical stresses of such high power, the Canvas L utilizes an upgraded version of the company’s proprietary “BridgeBrace” technology. This system incorporates MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) reinforcement within the cabinet walls to maintain structural rigidity.

Sound tuning was led by Benno Baun Medgaard, who has previously contributed to high-end speaker designs for brands like Gryphon and Raidho. Medgaard collaborated with Scan-Speak to create a custom woofer featuring a coated paper cone layered over an air-dried paper and carbon fiber base. This assembly is paired with a matching passive radiator to manage bass control, while high-frequency output is handled by an SB Acoustics tweeter housed in an asymmetrical, damped aluminum baffle designed to reduce edge diffraction.

Spatial Audio and Aesthetic Integration

The Canvas L continues the brand’s integration of BACCH 3D technology, a digital processing solution intended to create spatial sound effects from a two-channel stereo configuration. Unlike traditional multi-speaker home theater systems, this approach relies on psychoacoustic processing to simulate a 3D soundstage.

CANVAS L – Soundbar Does More Than Hide Under Your TV

The design is modular, supporting 13 different finishes and adjustable front panels that allow the unit to match the width of various TV models. The base package includes the soundbar, the front panel, and a universal TV mount. While formal U.S. and U.K. pricing remains unconfirmed, the €5,999 price tag converts to approximately $6,000 and £5,200.

The use of GaN power supplies in consumer audio is a growing trend, as these components are typically more efficient and compact than traditional silicon-based power supplies, allowing for higher power density in slim enclosures.
