Reno, Nev. – Cal State Fullerton’s track and field team concluded the first day of competition at the Nevada Invitational on Friday with a strong showing, securing nine podium finishes across both track and field events.
Record-Breaking Performances
The Titans’ distance medley relay teams were particularly successful, each claiming first place and setting new program records. The men’s team, comprised of JT McCoy, Parker Harrison, Kofi Rossi, and Luke Hitchcock, finished with a time of 9:59.89, surpassing last year’s record of 10:00.42. The women’s team of Makena Oliva, Mia Walker, Natalyn Membreno, and Isabella Smith also achieved a record-breaking time of 11:53.28, besting their previous mark of 11:55.71.
Sprint Success
Ian Dossman and Maleik Pabon dominated the men’s 60m dash, finishing first and second respectively. Both athletes initially recorded a time of 6.76 in the preliminary rounds, but Dossman ultimately secured the top spot with a personal-best time of 6.66, while Pabon finished at 6.69. Dominic Gates also competed in the finals, finishing with a time of 6.89 after qualifying with 6.87.
Brooklyn Davis also performed well in the women’s 60m dash, qualifying for the finals with a time of 7.49 and ultimately finishing third with a time of 7.45.
Hurdles and Field Events
Abel Jordan secured first place in the men’s 60m hurdles with a time of 7.87, after qualifying with 7.92. Maya Osola also competed in the hurdles, qualifying with a time of 8.85 and finishing at 8.92.
In field events, Damari Miller and Sebastian Ikolo earned podium finishes in the men’s long jump, placing second and third with jumps of 7.02m and 7.15m, respectively. Fiona Holloway achieved a podium finish in the women’s 1000m run with a time of 2:58.43, closely followed by Ashlynn Viramontes in fourth place at 2:58.66. Jocelyn Alexander and Alex Sheldon competed in the women’s weight throw, recording throws of 15.13m and 14.24m, respectively.
