Ukraine Secures $1 Billion Loan from Japan, UK for Economic Recovery and Social Support

Ukraine has received a $1 billion loan from Japan and the United Kingdom under the World Bank‘s Development Policy Loan (DPL) program, Ukrainian news agency Укринформ reported, citing a statement by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram.

In his statement, Shmyhal said, "Ukraine has received a $1 billion loan from Japan and the UK. The tranche was provided through government guarantees of these countries under the World Bank’s DPL program."

The Prime Minister noted that the funds will be channeled towards strengthening the Ukrainian economy and financing priority social and humanitarian needs. He expressed gratitude to the World Bank and the governments of Japan and the UK for their strong support for Ukraine and their contributions to its stability.

In a separate announcement today, Shmyhal revealed that Ukraine expects to attract over $38 billion in external financing next year to cover its most critical non-military budget expenses. Additionally, the country is set to receive funds from frozen Russian assets.

The World Bank’s DPL program supports a wide range of policy and institutional reforms in borrowing countries. This loan reflects the international community’s commitment to helping Ukraine bolster its economy amidst ongoing challenges.
