Headline: Ukraine‘s Drone Production Soars to 96% of All UAVs Used by Defense Forces in 2024
In a significant milestone for the country’s defense industry, Ukrainian-made drones accounted for over 96% of all unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) utilized by the nation’s defense forces in 2024. This remarkable achievement was confirmed by Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, in a recent Facebook post.
Umerov attributed this dramatic increase to the substantial growth of Ukraine’s domestic defense industry, particularly in the drone sector. He highlighted that the production of drones in the country reached unprecedented levels this year, with Ukrainian enterprises manufacturing and assembling over 1.5 million First-Person View (FPV) drones, along with various other types such as strike copters, kamikaze planes, reconnaissance drones, and long-range deep strike drones.
The Minister emphasized that these impressive numbers reflect a new level of effectiveness in the collaboration between the Ukrainian government and local drone producers. He also stated that prioritizing partnerships with domestic enterprises will continue into 2025.
The growing capability of Ukraine’s defense industry to meet the needs of its military forces while reducing dependence on foreign suppliers is a testament to the country’s resilience and determination in the face of ongoing challenges. As the new year approaches, the global defense community will be keen to see how these advancements shape Ukraine’s defense strategy in 2025 and beyond.
