Universiti Malaya has secured 194th place in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2027, making it the first university in Malaysia to break into the global top 200. Universiti Malaya Climbs to 194th Globally

The latest placement marks a sharp upward trajectory for Universiti Malaya, which occupied the 351-400 band in the 2023 rankings. Universiti Malaya Vice-Chancellor Datuk Seri Professor Ir Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman stated in a Bernama release that the milestone reflects the collective strength of the university community and establishes a stronger Malaysian presence in international higher education. Breaking into the top 200 serves as a statement of intent rather than a finish line, according to Noor Azuan, who noted that international outlook and research quality stood out as the institution’s strongest performance pillars in the 2027 assessment.
