LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team announced the hiring of Matt Kuelpman as Assistant Coach on Monday afternoon.
New Assistant Coach Brings Proven Track Record
Head coach Malia Shoji expressed enthusiasm about Kuelpman’s character, professionalism, and passion for the sport. Shoji stated that Kuelpman’s experience aligns with the program’s existing approach and future goals. She also noted his respect for the team’s recent accomplishments and his commitment to its vision.
Kuelpman previously served as assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the University of New Mexico Lobos in 2023. During his tenure, the Lobos averaged 12.26 kills per set, with Uxue Guereca and Kaitlynn Biassou both exceeding 380 kills and earning All-Mountain West honors. The Lobos finished tied for fourth in the conference and defeated UNLV in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament.
Prior Experience at Weber State
Prior to his time at New Mexico, Kuelpman spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Weber State University, also serving as the recruiting coordinator for the 2023 and 2025 classes. He was responsible for coaching the back row defense, coordinating offensive strategies, and overseeing blocking, serving, and defensive tactics. Weber State won the Big Sky Championship twice during his time with the program.
From 2019 through 2021, Weber State won 25-straight home matches, establishing the longest home winning streak in the nation at the time.
