An AI deepfake version of Val Kilmer is set to star in the upcoming film As Deep As The Grave, a project supported by the late actor’s family.

Val Kilmer died in April 2025 at the age of 65 due to pneumonia, following a prior diagnosis of throat cancer in 2014. He was originally cast in As Deep As The Grave in 2020 as Father Fintan, a Catholic priest and Native American spiritualist, but illness prevented him from fulfilling the commitment.
Writer and director Coerte Voorhees intends to utilize generative AI, incorporating younger images and footage from Kilmer’s later years, to bring the actor to the screen. Voorhees stated, “He was the actor I wanted to play this role. It was incredibly much designed around him.”
