Vietnam Announces 2027 Tet and National Day Holiday Schedules

Civil servants and public employees in Vietnam will take a seven-day Lunar New Year break from Thursday, February 4, to Wednesday, February 10, 2027. The schedule covers five statutory holiday days and two compensatory days off because two weekly rest days coincide with the holiday, according to an official announcement from the Ministry of Home Affairs approved by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra.

Approved Lunar New Year and National Day Schedules for 2027

State employees return to work on Thursday, February 11, the sixth day of the new lunar year. The Ministry of Home Affairs had also floated a 10-day option running from February 5 to February 14 that required swapping a working day, but ultimately selected the seven-day layout.

For National Day in 2027, civil servants and public employees will receive four consecutive days off from Thursday, September 2, to Sunday, September 5. This break includes two statutory holidays on September 2 and September 3, combined with the weekend. Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra also approved a one-day holiday on November 24, 2026, to mark Vietnamese Culture Day, under Document No. 10065/VPCP-KGVX issued by the Government Office on October 2.

Private employers set employee holiday schedules

Private employers set their own schedules based on operating conditions, provided workers receive no fewer days off than the Labor Code requires.

For National Day, employers must give workers September 2 off alongside either September 1 or September 3. Employers are required to notify workers of their holiday arrangements at least 30 days in advance. While the Ministry of Home Affairs encourages companies to adopt the same schedule as civil servants, it also encourages employers to offer more favorable arrangements that exceed statutory minimums.

State agencies maintain public services during holidays

State agencies and public service units must arrange staffing to ensure continuous operations and maintain public services throughout both holiday periods. Personnel must be assigned to handle unexpected and urgent tasks, while agencies that do not have regular Saturdays and Sundays off must schedule leave in line with their work plans and legal regulations. Ministries, agencies, and local authorities are directed to develop plans to maintain production, ensure adequate supplies of goods and services, stabilize prices, and balance labor supply and demand before, during, and after the holidays.
