Sarah Puttemans and Viktor Verhulst share their bed, daily walks, and international travel routines with their three-year-old cavapoo, Joey, as reported by nieuwsblad.be. The dog features on the full cover of magazine Billie ahead of Animal Day, styled by top fashion stylist Tom Eerebout.
Why Sarah Puttemans and Viktor Verhulst Chose a Cavapoo
The couple specifically targeted the cavapoo breed for its temperament and practical traits. Sarah Puttemans noted that Cavaliers offer affection and sweetness, while poodles bring intelligence.
“They don’t ruive, which I also find pleasant. Moreover, they are real family dogs. They can get along well with children, which we also think is important,” Puttemans told nieuwsblad.be.
The search concluded on a Sunday walk by the sea following a phone call from a breeder who had one male puppy remaining. Upon visiting the following weekend, Joey approached them immediately, cementing their decision.
Puttemans Provides Functional Clothing and Accessories for Joey
Joey maintains an extensive lifestyle that includes international accessories and specific household habits. Puttemans brings toys back from trips to America and London, while the dog’s wardrobe features an extendable drawer filled with boxes of sweaters.
While Puttemans avoids dressing dogs up permanently, functional clothing serves specific purposes. “On a ski trip, for example, we had protective socks with us for his soles,” she told nieuwsblad.be.
Bedtime operates on the dog’s schedule. Joey initiates the transition to sleep each evening by requesting to go to bed, where he rests until morning. Viktor Verhulst experiences a more playful dynamic when returning home, as Joey greets him by carrying a bone to display.
Owning Joey Changes Puttemans Work Habits and Mental Health
Owning Joey altered Puttemans’ work habits by introducing mandatory outdoor walks twice a day. The routine provides a mental break from work and anxiety.
“I am calmer myself because of it,” she told nieuwsblad.be. Beyond the immediate household, Joey maintains a close bond with Jack, another cavapoo owned by Puttemans’ mother. The two dogs frequently play together on the beach after initial visits prompted her mother to acquire a cavapoo of her own.
