Virginia Eileen Thompson, 82, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Wilson Health. Born on October 12, 1943, in Sidney, she was the daughter of the late Bernard “Bernie” and Martha “Marty” (Ferguson) Stewart.
A Life of Family, Service, and Travel
Virginia Thompson’s life was marked by a long and loving marriage, a dedication to her community, and a passion for exploration. She married Wallace “Ed” Thompson on September 3, 1961, at the Quincy Methodist Church, and they shared 64 years together.
She is survived by her husband, as well as three children: Chris Thompson of Sidney, Naomi (David) Sluss of Houston, and Missi (Tony) Brandewie of Greensboro, NC. Virginia also leaves behind three sisters – Trudy (Art) Hughes of Satellite Beach, FL, Becky Jenkins of Piqua, and Aunalee Hess of DeGraff – along with 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A 1961 graduate of Riverside Local School District, Virginia pursued entrepreneurial ventures as the owner/operator of three H&R Block offices. However, her most fulfilling work came as a school bus driver for the children of Hardin-Houston Schools.
A memorial service will be held at Sidney First Methodist Church on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Jane Madden officiating. Her remains will be interred at Fairview Cemetery in Quincy at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
