Ward Rombaut’s stickers arrive on the ‘Thuis’ set
Ward Rombaut, a 27-year-old creative from Bruges known for placing absurd stickers on public trains, has expanded his work to the set of the Flemish soap opera Thuis, Nieuwsblad reported. The production team invited Rombaut to decorate the soap’s new set in Herent after noticing his previous public stunts, which included messages like “No ticket = spanking” or “Follow us on OnlyFans: @NMBS.”
Rombaut, who works in media, was invited to participate in a brainstorming session for the show’s writers. During this “inspiration day,” he presented his sticker concepts, and the production team opted to integrate them into the show’s physical environment.
Humorous messages integrated into the set
The stickers feature references tailored to specific locations within the Thuis universe. In the home of the character Tom, a sticker warns: “Please do not share confidential information with Nancy.” The loft shared by Peter and Christine features the message: “Maximum one illegitimate child per person.” At Bar Madam, a sign reads: “Attention: Rosa can become horny at any moment.”
Behind the scenes, the costume department also received a label: “Please do not visibly gain or lose weight without permission from the writers.” Rombaut noted that he printed a significant number of stickers for the production, ensuring they were placed throughout the workspace.
The timeline for on-screen visibility
According to VRT spokesperson Ira Stevaert, the network supports Rombaut’s intervention and intends to keep the stickers in place. Due to the production cycle, where there is typically a three-month gap between filming and broadcast, viewers can expect to see the stickers in future episodes.
Rombaut acknowledged that the stickers might be difficult for viewers to spot immediately, as they are integrated into background details like coffee machines. He previously gained attention for sending T-shirts through the mail inside hollowed-out watermelons, pans, and loaves of bread.
Questions about the sticker installation
How long will the stickers remain on the set? VRT spokesperson Ira Stevaert confirmed that the network is a fan of Rombaut’s work and plans to leave the stickers in place on the set.
When will viewers be able to see the stickers on television? Because there is a three-month delay between the recording of Thuis episodes and their broadcast, the stickers are expected to appear in episodes airing within that timeframe.
Was this a sanctioned project by the production? Yes, Rombaut was invited to the writers’ “inspiration day,” where he shared his ideas.
