Noah Donohoe Inquest: Witness Recounts Seeing Naked Cyclist on Day of Disappearance
The inquest into the death of 14-year-old Noah Donohoe has resumed at Belfast Coroner’s Court, with a witness testifying he saw a male cycling naked on the day the schoolboy went missing in June 2020. The hearing, now in its fourth week, continues to examine the circumstances surrounding Noah’s disappearance and subsequent discovery in a storm drain in North Belfast.
“I Initially Thought It Was a Prank” – Witness Testimony
Connor McConnell, the witness, stated he was at his mother’s partner’s house on June 21st when he observed the individual cycling on Northwood Road. He initially dismissed the sight as a “prank.” McConnell too reported seeing discarded clothing – shoes, shorts, boxers, a T-shirt, and a hoodie – neatly placed on the footpath.
His statement, read to the jury, detailed his observations. He later noted a dark car and two men conversing at the end of the street, but did not believe they were connected to the cyclist.
Police Response and Initial Assessment
The inquest has previously heard testimony regarding the initial police response to reports of Noah’s missing bike. Constable Tim Wilson described being called to Northwood Road shortly before 8pm on June 22nd, after receiving reports of the bicycle being found. He secured the bike and other items – trainers and a jumper – as evidence.
The court has heard that at the time of the initial reports, the Constable was “not aware” the missing person case was considered high risk.
