UNA Women’s Golf Heads to Nashville Invitational, Eyes ASUN Championship

The University of North Alabama women’s golf team is gearing up for the Nashville Invitational at Hermitage Golf Course, a crucial stop before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. The tournament, hosted by Lipscomb, begins Monday, March 23rd, with 36 holes played, followed by a final 18 holes on Tuesday, March 24th.

A Familiar Course, New Opportunities

This marks UNA’s second appearance at Hermitage Golf Course, though the first time playing the General’s Retreat course specifically. Last season, competing on the President’s Reserve Track, the Lions finished 8th of 16 teams. The team will be looking to improve on that result, building momentum towards the ASUN Championship.

The Lineup Remains Consistent

Head Coach will stick with the same starting five that has competed in all three spring invitationals: Kerigan Klauber, Ava Schwartz, Olivia Whittle, Sirichaya Chanpen, and Kiersten Riggins. This consistency allows for continued team development and synergy.

A Competitive Field Awaits

The Nashville Invitational boasts a diverse field, including fellow ASUN competitors Lipscomb, Bellarmine, and Austin Peay. The tournament likewise welcomes teams from Tennessee, the Midwest, and even the West Coast, such as Memphis, Ball State, Seattle U, and Eastern Washington. UNA is the sole representative from the state of Alabama.

Course Details: Hermitage Golf Course – General’s Retreat

Hermitage Golf Course, home to General’s Retreat, is a well-respected venue with a rich history. Built in 1986, it previously hosted the LPGA Sara Lee Classic for over a decade and is consistently ranked among Nashville’s best golf courses. The course will challenge players with its layout along the Cumberland River.

Building on Recent Performance

Coming off an 11th-place finish at the Magnolia Collegiate, the Lions are focused on carrying positive momentum into the Nashville Invitational. Olivia Whittle led UNA in Mobile, Alabama, with a consistent performance, while Ava Schwartz showed promise with a strong final-round 75.

Klauber Returns to Her Home State

Redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber will have the advantage of playing close to home, as she hails from Athens, Tennessee, just under three hours from Nashville. Klauber recently earned ASUN Co-Golfer of the Week honors, demonstrating her current form.

UNA’s History with Lipscomb Tournaments

This tournament represents the sixth time UNA has participated in an event hosted by Lipscomb. The Lions achieved their best finish in a Lipscomb-hosted tournament with a third-place showing in 2023.
