SUU Women’s Golf Wraps Up Babs Steffens Invitational, Eyes Home Tournament
DEBARY, FLORIDA – The Southern Utah University Women’s Golf team concluded its participation in the Babs Steffens Invitational, hosted by Stetson University, finishing 14th out of 16 teams. The tournament, held at DeBary Country Club, provided a valuable experience for the Thunderbirds as they continue their season.
A Challenging Florida Trip
Head Coach Caylyn McKinlay acknowledged the unique opportunity the trip presented, stating, “It was fun to travel with the team to Florida. It is a unique experience to play golf all over the United States and the team had fun. We obviously were hoping for better results on the course, but there were some bright spots that we will continue to try and build upon as the fall season continues.”
Individual Performances Shine
Kirsten Hall led the SUU team, tying for 52nd place with rounds of 80, 80, and 82. Reece Bandemer followed closely, tying for 61st with a notable second-round score of 79. Siriporn (Orchid) Luangnam also showcased improvement, carding a 78 in her second round and finishing 68th overall.
Ellie Olsen tied for 74th, while Taylyn Wilson finished tied for 81st. Kiana Roddy, competing as an individual, secured 78th place.
Looking Ahead: The Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational
The Thunderbirds will now prepare for their home event, the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, scheduled for March 6-8 at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah. This tournament offers a chance for SUU to compete on familiar ground and showcase their skills to a home crowd.
