Berlin to Host Third World Hat Walk, Championing Empathy and Brain Research

On May 10, 2026, Berlin will once again be the site of an extraordinary cultural event: the World Hat Walk. This year marks the third iteration of the event, connecting nearly 60 cities across six continents in a stylish, creative, and communal movement.

A Parade of Individuality and Creative Expression

The World Hat Walk welcomes designers, vintage enthusiasts, cosplayers, and even hat-wearing pets. Organizer Tatiana Ashakova Turko emphasizes the event’s purpose: “The Hat Walk brings everyone together to showcase the art of hat-making and collectively demonstrate individuality and creative expression.”

Route and Festivities

The parade will begin at Pariser Platz and proceed to the Heckmannhöfe. The Heckmannhöfe will host a program designed to foster inspiration, camaraderie, and a positive atmosphere. The event centers around connection, exchange, and supporting the Deutsche Hirnstiftung (German Brain Foundation).

Supporting Brain Research Through Donations

For those unable to attend in person, the Deutsche Hirnstiftung has launched a dedicated online donation campaign in conjunction with the World Hat Walk. Ashakova Turko encourages participation, highlighting the foundation’s vital work.

“Hats Off for Empathy” – A Digital Campaign

Beyond the visual spectacle, the World Hat Walk aims to raise awareness and understanding for individuals living with invisible neurological conditions. Ashakova Turko, in collaboration with the Deutsche Hirnstiftung, has launched the digital campaign “Hats Off for Empathy.”

The Symbolic Gesture: Tipping a Hat

The campaign centers around a simple yet powerful gesture: consciously tipping one’s hat. Historically a sign of respect, this action is being reinterpreted as a demonstration of recognition for the unseen challenges faced by those with neurological conditions. “Individuals from media, culture, the public sphere, and science are invited to make a statement with this simple gesture,” says Ashakova Turko.

Join the Conversation: #HutAbFürEmpathie

The initiative is being shared on Instagram and TikTok, encouraging widespread participation. Every post using the hashtag #HutAbFürEmpathie increases the campaign’s visibility. The culmination of the digital campaign will occur on May 10th at Pariser Platz, where all participants will simultaneously tip their hats.
