Mendoza, Argentina — Residents of the central part of this picturesque province are bracing for a severe storm, as the National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and hail. As thunder rumbled and clouds gathered, locals braced for the impending deluge Monday afternoon.
The storm is expected to hit the southern regions first, with heavy downpours and hail predicted along Route 40, affecting areas like Potrerillos and Uspallata. Meteorologist Mariano García confirmed, "The storm hovering over the Gran Mendoza departments has shifted northeast," but warned, "There’s a chance it could resurge later tonight."
Santa Rosa and La Paz are currently under the highest alert, with forecasters monitoring the situation closely.Parts of Las Heras and Ciudad have already experienced heavy rainfall, filling rivers and streams that were previously dry, according to experts.
The areas under the most severe threat, shaded orange on the alert map, include the eastern and central parts of the province, with San Rafael and General Alvear among the cities at risk. A less severe, yellow alert has been issued for the Gran Mendoza area and nearby regions.
Residents are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about updates to the storm’s trajectory and intensity.
